12 Things Misericordia Students Can Look Forward To

As commuter who currently has 3 jobs at Mis I hear some stuff. Most of it everyone there knows or hears about, but nonetheless fun and newsworthy! There has been talk everywhere about all things new at Mis and everyone is bursting with excitement, especially me. Misericordia University is always changing and improving, even when we think it can't possible get any better. So many things are happening that we can't keep track! So here's a list to help you out.

1. Chick-Fil-A

The most talked about news is true! Good bye Cougars Den and hello chopping block! Coming to a Misericordia near you!

2. Chopping Block

And right along side Chick-Fil-A will be our new salad bar! (Can anyone say Red Leaf wanna be?) Nevertheless, we are excited for more healthy options on campus.

3. Starbucks

Our beloved! Starbucks will indeed be located in our Banks Students Life Center lounge!

4. The Patio

Tables and Chairs and Umbrellas, oh my! We are already in construction of the new patio that is going to be directly in front of our old den and will seat 50+ people.

5. A Door in the back of the Campus Store

Thanks the heavens (and Misericordia) for this one! We've been wanting this forever! Now, instead of walking all the way around after a baseball or football game, you can enter through our convenient new back door that faces the fields.

6. The Campus Store’s whole new renovation

With a new ownership comes a new face! Follett took over for a week and now your campus store looks completely different. So beyond excited! Come by and check us out!

7. Micro-fridges and Microwaves

It's true! Starting this year we are providing some of the dormers with micro fridges and microwaves that come with the room. As a start, it is for freshmen and (I think) Guildea Hall residence. So that means, Freshmen: do not bring your own fridge and microwave because you will not be allowed to use your own. This is awesome news because now you won't have to worry about how to defrost a fridge and Alumnae Hall won't have so many fire drills because of burnt popcorn!

8. The Den's pizza now being served in the Cafe

Pro: You can have our amazing pizza in the cafeteria now. Con: I don't think you can buy just a slice if you're not eating in the cafeteria for lunch. Sad face.

9. Anderson Health Center’s new front

Not really sure what is going on there, but it has been under construction all summer! Very excited to use the front door again.

10. The New Bleachers in Anderson.

They're blue and (hopefully) sturdier than the last ones!

11. The new science building.

Supposed to be done by 2018/2019 as of now!

12. The new freshmen

Yay! New freshmen!! It's good for the old freshmen because you are no longer the youngest. It's good for the new freshmen because you start college! And it's good for everyone else at Mis because we are a friendly community who love new people!

Hope this helps! See you soon!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
