There's a lot that I've learned from growing up with my brothers. From the years full of imagination and adventure to the support that they so willingly provide me, I couldn't be more thankful. Here are 10 of the best things I've learned from having brothers:Ae
1. Patience
I think this is a pretty good place to start. Patience is the one thing that I have learned from being an older sibling. Whether it is being there to listen to all of the middle school drama or waiting to get my turn in the bathroom. Patience truly is the answer to all sibling problems.
2. Insightfulness
This is a big one, as it is hard to get to the solution of a problem without an understanding of someone else’s point of view. So learning to understand and process from another person perspective is crucial.
3. Never Ending Support
Whether it is in regards to school, sports, work… your family will always be there for you. As an older sibling, one comes to realize how much they are there for you, even through all of the small things. Like being at your sister's cheerleading competitions every weekend for like 8 years. Or being there to talk to her when she is stressed over schoolwork at midnight.
4. Brilliant Young Minds
I never realized how smart kids were until I really listened to what my brothers were saying. Children have this way of soaking up knowledge like a sponge. Which is a concept so rare to someone like me who has to study, process and memorize constantly to retain new information. This reason confirmed for me that I truly want to be a teacher, so I can work with children who are just as captivating as my brothers are.
5. Staying Young
From running around stores and pushing carriages into all sorts of shelves, to playing games like Speak Out and Heads Up, I can always count on them for a fun time. Even if it is teaching me how to dab, telling me if my outfits are bad or updating me on all the latest drama, they have definitely kept me up to date on all of the latest trends.
6. Honesty
Though sometimes brutal, honesty from your siblings is well needed. Whether it is their opinion on a new hairstyle, what party you should (or should not) go to, or even if the person you are dating is right for you… honesty from loved ones is important and well needed.
7. The Adventures
Everyone searches for friends growing up, and some people are blessed enough to be given them. Always having a partner in crime (or two) truly makes life complete. Tell me what is better than always having a friend down to get Taco Bell at midnight, having someone to go on rollercoasters with, or just grabbing Starbucks and looking at the Hot Wheels in Target. There is nothing better than always having a friend who will explore with you.
8. Memories
From the day they were born to your baptism and when you graduated from Kindergarten, 5th and 8th grade. From walking through Bermuda and buying over priced souvenirs or watching the Light Parade pass by us while sitting on the sidewalk in Disney. These are some of the greatest memories I will cherish forever, and I am so beyond grateful to have experienced them with my brothers.
9. For Caring
From crying after they bump their heads, or just wanting attention, brothers are super needy for love. I have grown to appreciate this need for all it is. They require me to hear what they are saying and not only listen to the words. As well as caring about what they really mean when they say something.
10. For Teaching Me What Unconditional Love Is
No matter how bad one of messes up, we know the other will still love us at the end of the day. From saying something mean that hurts one of our feelings, or not doing our best to help each other out. I know at the end of the day that I can always turn to them for support and love.
