College has been fun, but also an adjustment. Here are 12 things I've learned during my first two months.

1. The assignments never stop. Literally.

Just when you think you’ll have time to breathe, surprise! You have another exam coming up. Oh, and did I mention it's cumulative and not all multiple choice?

2. Do the “optional” readings

Just because you aren't being graded on reading the textbook or not, do it. Random information from the textbook will appear on exams and those extra 20 minutes per day will pay off.

3. Showering with shoes sucks

Never will I take for granted showering barefoot again. Dorm showers are NASTY. Is it really that hard to pick up your band-aid in the shower?

4. You will probably break out

I thankfully never dealt with acne all 18 years of my life, until college started. You can workout, shower, wash your face, drink water, but you’re going to break out. I think I get three new pimples for every assignment I have.

5. Tailgates are exhausting, take a nap. Honestly, always take a nap

Nothing like a good ol' nap and rally. College campuses are the only place it's acceptable to start partying at 7 A.M. If you plan on going out later Saturday night, too, take a nap. Your body (and Sunday morning self) will thank you for it.

6. 10 A.M. classes are hard

I look back and wonder how I woke up at 5:45 in the morning for four years. Rolling out of bed and seeing 9:15 on the clock in high school was an amazing feeling, but now it’s dreadful.

7. Being motivated to go to class is also hard

l

I still go, but wow is it hard to sometimes. You'll think of every excuse in the book as to why you don’t want to go, but if you're like me, the overwhelming guilt of the fact that your family pays for your tuition gets you up and moving.

8. Frat parties are gross

The things you see people do in a frat basement are mind blowing. I don't think I've left a party without a gallon of sweat on me yet. Honestly, who knows how much of that is my own.

9. You meet amazing people

My favorite part of college so far has been meeting the people from all across the world. Hearing about what their cultures are like, and why they came to my University is so fascinating. I also enjoy talking to people about their majors and what they want to do with their lives. It's more than just small talk!

10. Get involved

I made the decision to rush a sorority, and I'm so happy I did. It's nice to be able to have familiar faces almost everywhere. Greek life isn’t the only way to get involved on campus, but it's great if you want a small community and aren't interested in any clubs so far.

11. You’ll get sick of the dining hall food almost immediately

Scrambled eggs for dinner again? Dining hall food is especially hard if you're vegetarian or vegan. Some days, I eat a bagel with peanut butter and fruit for every meal.

12. I don’t want to be anywhere else

Yes, I'm stressed out. Yes, I'm sleep deprived. Yes, I'm drowning in work. No, I wouldn't trade my school for anywhere else.

Sorority

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
