12 Things I Hope To Accomplish in 2017

2016 has been my greatest year so far, but I have goals and dreams for 2017 to be even better.

We all have New Year's Resolutions that we never actually follow through with. I want to change that this year, by making myself push through and accomplish every single thing on this list.

1. Grow a stronger bond with God.

Here recently, I have become closer with God, but because of my busy schedule, I don't lend him enough of my time. I hope to find more time for him in 2017.

2. Exercise frequently and drop a few pounds.

I took advantage of the caf's dessert bar and ice cream machine way too much this year.

3. Become more outgoing.

I'll talk your head off if you're one of my close friends, but it's hard for me to approach someone new. I want to change that and learn how to make more friends this year.

4. Make someone smile.

This is a personal goal that I have every day. I want to accomplish this goal every single day in 2017. I know it's small, but some times a smile is all someone needs to brighten their day.

5. Keep my relationship going at the same rate that it's going.

I love exactly where I'm at in my relationship. I don't want it to backslide in 2017 or pick up too fast. I think that we're in a very good spot for both of us right now.

6. Catch up with old friends.

These past couple of years after high school have been super busy and crazy. I want to meet up and catch up with all of my old friends at some point this year and let them know that I still think about them.

7. Learn to cook.

I know how to cook the basic stuff, but I'm almost 20 years old and have never cooked a whole lot. I want to start cooking more instead of going out to eat this year.

8. Learn that I can't sign up to do everything.

In high school, I liked to be involved in just about everything on campus. I try to transfer that over to college, but I need to realize that college is a different ball game and I don't have the same time and energy as I did in high school to sign up for every club, activity, and event going on.

9. Grow in my career.

This past semester, I had the most growth I've ever had towards my teaching career. I took a lot of classes that involved visiting schools and even tutored some children. I hope that in 2017, I can get even more experience in my career to better prepare myself.

10. Spend more time with my parents.

I know that they think I'm too old to hang out with them, but I don't feel that way. I want to do more things with them this year, than I did last year. I want to let them know that I still love and care about them.

11. Travel

I love traveling. It is one of my favorite things to do in itself, as well as with my parents, and with my boyfriend. We travel to some amazing places almost every year, and this year my goal is to travel to some super exciting place. (Although, I don't know if we'll be able to top our last two trips. I want to try, though.)

12. Become a better me.

Lastly, I just want to become the best version of me that I can in 2017.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
