Everyone has at least one celebrity obsession (and yes, obsessing over the Pope does count as a celebrity obsession), Ellen DeGeneres just happens to be mine. Not only is she amazing and funny, but she has taught many people a number of important lessons.
Here are just a few of those valuable lessons.
1. Do whatever makes you happy.
Especially when she has little kids on her show, Ellen makes sure to express the importance of being happy with what you do. And that goes to anything you do in your life. Hobbies and jobs alike.
2. Be confident in who you are.
Having self-confidence is something a lot of people lack in, but confidence is something important to helping you grow to be the best person you can be!
3. Don't label yourself or others.
Food is the only thing that deserves labels. Food and clothing, not people.
4. Just keep Swimming.
Our fun loving friend Dory, voiced by Ellen DeGeneres, reminds us to never give up on yourself and that when times are tough you just have to keep swimming because it will get better!
5. Beauty is more than what's outside.
Physical appearance is one thing that makes up beauty, but not the only thing- nor is it the main thing. What's inside matters most.
6. Kindness is something the world needs more of.
She always ends her shows with "Be kind to one another" and expresses the importance of kindness through everything she does.
7. Don't let society tell you what to do.
Ellen just wants us to be us. It's no fun having robots as friends or significant others.
8. Dancing is good for you.
When haven't you seen her dance at least once a week? Let loose, have fun and bust out your moves.
9. Love who you want.
It's no secret that Ellen has a wife and that they are the cutest (okay, maybe I'm bias). She stands for equality and believes that love has no gender.
10. It's not the size of a gift, it's the meaning behind it.
If you've ever seen her show, you've seen her gifts. They range from shoes to cars. From shirts to huge paintings of yourself. But they always have meaning behind them.
11. Bullying isn't cool.
Although she is a comedian, Ellen is very anti-bullying. She makes sure that everyone understands the difference between a bully and a comedian.
12. Have fun.
She's 58 years old and still finds a way to laugh every day.
