When you tell your parents, family, and friends you are considering being a communication major or changing your degree to being one, the responses are always the same. People automatically connect communication majors with people who have no idea what they want to do with their college careers or lives. While for some that may be true, you cannot simply paint every communication major the same. These next twelve comments and questions towards communications majors who are solidified in their degree choice are simply unbearably annoying. Try to avoid them at all costs.
1. “What are you going to do with that post-graduation?”
Well, become a program director for a hospital, of course.
2. “What do they even test you on, how to speak?"
Wow, you are a genius. *insert eye roll*
3. “Everyone knows how to communicate.”
Yes my dear, but not everyone knows how to communicate well.
4. “That is not a real major.”
I mean the school offers it so...
5. “I am glad they like teach you how to public speak considering you have been doing that your whole life.”

6. “Can you even name someone who is a successful communication major?”
Yeah, Oprah.
7. "Are your teachers a bunch of hippies who write poems for a living?"
A few have been, but most are quite wonderful.
8. "Must be nice studying two hours for an exam."
Yes, that would be nice. I wish I knew how that felt.
9. "Can you edit my paper?"
Oh, so now my degree is actually worthwhile?
10. "So you're a grammar whore then right?"
You mean "you are"?
11. "Was it easy switching majors?"
Actually, I have been a communication major since freshman year.
12. “Good luck finding a job post-graduation.”
