1. Pinterest is like coffee; you use it to get motivated, but you ultimately end up over caffeinated.
If you are project obsessed, you might be addicted to Pinterest. For the DIY’ers, it is an endless wonderland of ideas and inspiration. You have a board for everything, but not enough time to do it all. You are simply over Pinterest inspired.
2. Whenever you walk into a store, you can’t help but think: “I could make that…”
You see fake taxidermy, cute scarves, and flower crowns, and know that you could make them. You can make them both better and cheaper. If that cardboard deer head costs $12 at a craft store, you can make it for free out of some cardboard you found behind a dumpster. You never pay full price for anything.
3. You save everything.
You have little bags full of fabric scraps, buttons, and mix matched, miscellaneous items. You know that it is a problem and that that problem may be out of hand, but you also know that everything can be used for something. You may not know what that something is yet, but that something is out there.
4. You are the overlord of handmade gifts.
Whenever birthdays, Christmas, Hanukkah, Saturnalia, or any other gift-giving occasion comes around, everyone in your life knows to expect a handmade gift. It sound cheesy, but your handmade gifts are pretty great. They are gifts that people will actually like and use.
5. Your best friend is a glue gun.
Glue guns are a lifesaver. They can and will fix anything. Every DIY’er has at least one. Special DIY’ers have three or more.
6. You have a big DIY bucket list…
It may be a physical written list or a collection of Pinterest boards, but you have a list somewhere. That list exists and it’s huge. You may not be able to do all of those projects, but you sure want to give it a try.
7. …at the top of that list is at least one big dream project.
It may be big in price or size, but everyone has at least one dream project on their mind. It’s probably one that requires more space or more resources, so it may not get done for a while. It’s always good to dream.
8. There is most likely a collection of unfinished and discarded projects.
Although you have a list of dream projects, you also have an inventory of old forgotten pieces. You try to finish everything, but on occasion, you forget to finish a few. Those poor unfinished souls may sit there for days, weeks, or years. One day, you’ll find them hiding in a corner or under your bed, but it’ll be from such a long time ago that you’ll forget what you were trying to make.
9. Some people recycle. You up-cycle.
You live in a world where old tee-shirts become new shopping bags and ripped book pages become works of art. You know that broken things can be reincarnated into a new life. You see the value of resources and don’t waste anything.
10. You may have taught another person how to do a favorite DIY.
Whether you taught a group how to book-bind or showed a friend how to cut tee-shirts, some projects are irresistibly teachable. It’s always great to share your knowledge with others. Sometimes, you can even inspire other’s creativity.
11. You get excited whenever you show others your creations.
There is nothing wrong with being proud of your creations, so it is only natural to show people what you made. Whether you give someone a handmade gift or you post a picture on social media, it’s always fun to see other people’s reactions to your finished projects.
12. You have become a natural problem solver.
The whole point of a DIY project is to be creative and independent. All those fun DIY adventures have turned you into quick thinker and innovator. If something needs to be fixed or made, you either know how to it or you research a solution. Once you start DIY’ing, it is hard to stop.
