12 Tall Girl Problems

Being the tall girl in everyday life has its struggles. From school to the grocery store, we deal with questions and assumptions. It's time that people know the truth about how we feel.

1. "How's the weather up there?"

I'm probably 5 inches taller than you. The weather is the exact same for me as it is for you. Just stop asking this question.

2. "Do you play basketball?"

I played in middle school and I was terrible, so no. Not all individuals that are tall play basketball; it's not a requirement. Take Brandon Todd for example, he can dunk and he's only 5'5".

3. "Do you have trouble getting through doorways?"

Honestly? I'm 5'8", not 7 feet tall. Frankly it makes me feel uncomfortable when you ask this question, I'm not a giant. Are you lacking common sense or are you just being a smart-a**?

4. My legs are way too long for certain dresses.

I have the ability to make a dress look like it could be a shirt. Shopping for dresses is a nightmare, because I have to make sure it's long enough where I don't look trashy.

5. Shopping for pants is even worse.

A lot of stores don't offer jeans in longer lengths. I'm at a height where its a hit or miss, but a lot of pants end up looking like high waters or long capris. Sometimes the tall jeans are too long. It makes me hate shopping. So, stores, listen up and offer more lengths of pants!

6. Boys.

It's typical that a girl wants her guy to be taller or at least equal in height. It's much harder to find a companion when you are already tall.

7. "You should so be a model."

While, I'm flattered by this comment, it's unrealistic. I COULD be a model, but I could be a lot of things. Models are stereotypically tall, but not every tall girl in the world could be one. It's a lot of work!

8. Pictures.

All my tall ladies can hear me when I say pictures are the worst, especially with others. You have to stand in a way where you don't look awkward and hope your head isn't cut off.

9. High heels are hell.

I can barely walk normal without heels, let alone when I add more inches to my height. How do women even wear stilettos? When I wear heels, they have a very short heel, because I feel awkward being even taller, so don't judge me based on that. I walk like a baby deer with high heels on, simple as that.

10. Being used as a shield.

It's always fun when friends use you as a shield for the wind, rain, etc. Get an umbrella, that's all I ask.

11. "Can you get that for me?"

Yes, but what would you do if I wasn't here? Also, I can see that you can clearly reach it, too. So to spite you, no I'm not going to get that for you.

12. "You're tall!"

Do you really believe I failed to realize that fact? Common sense, people.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
