It’s that time of year again—school is starting, people are moving back to their college towns and into new apartments. Most of the time, student housing is anything but glamorous, as many of you may already know. With that being said, we can all nod in agreement to these 12 struggles of student housing.
1. You can never go barefoot.
It's not that you haven't cleaned your apartment multiple times before moving in, it's just that it simply isn't clean enough.
2. Your fridge is a black hole of two-month-old leftovers.
I honestly can't tell what half of the stuff in my fridge originally was.
3. You always have to check if a dish is actually clean after it goes through your dishwasher.
Why do they even bother installing dishwashers if they don't actually work?
4. You own multiples of basic cooking products—like vegetable oil, butter, spices, etc.
Apparently, every roommate likes to have their own set.
5. You become a pro at checking to see if windows are open before running the air conditioner.
Electric bills are expensive, okay?
6. Your rent is always outrageous because you live near your college.
I guess you pay for what's convenient, right?
7. You hide your toilet paper/feminine hygiene products so your roommates don’t steal them.
It always gets taken at the most inconvenient time, too.
8. You try to make friends with the maintenance crew so that they fix your apartment first.
My dishwasher, microwave and dryer are all broken--please, help.
9. You know the tow truck’s phone number by heart because strangers always park in your spot.
I swear, one day I will confront that savage.
10. You wonder how dirty dishes miraculously appear on your stove, yet none of your roommates know whose they are.
Well, I know they're not mine, so now I'm really wondering.
11. You learn to deal with noise.
It's 4:30 a.m. and I think my roommates are playing charades.
12. You understand that it is only temporary.
Even though student apartments can be inconvenient and bothersome, they’re only going to be a small part of our lives. In 10 years we will (hopefully) be in a beautiful house of our own and no longer have to worry about whose creamer is in the fridge. Until then, just make sure you're making the most out of your time living as a carefree college student because it's over sooner than you would expect.
