All of my life I have been taller than other people around me. At age 10, I was already getting taller than my older sister. I have been 5'9" and 1/2 (Yes, not saying 5'10) for the past five years now. I have a long torso and long legs, so the struggle is always real. Being tall is a blessing and a curse. On one hand, you can see more in crowds. On the other hand, you are constantly gawked at when you're around people you don't know who appear to have never seen a woman over 5'6. This one goes out to the many people who have asked what it is like to be tall and a female.
Here are 12 struggles of tall girls.
1. When your friends wear heels and you're still taller.
2. When blankets don't fit so either you have cold feet or cold arms...
3. Many dresses fit like shirts . . . and rompers, don't get me started!
4. You're always in the back of pictures because that's where the tall people stand.
5. Constantly being asked how tall you are
6. You're taller than your professors, teachers, parents . . . most humans!
7. People always telling you they wish they were your height.
8. People think it's fine to ask how tall you are...but rude to ask how short they are?!
9. Being asked to get things from high shelves
10. Having feet too big for cute shoes
11. "You should be a model!"
12. Clothes are either the right length and too big...or the right size and not long enough!
Being tall isn't all bad. There's nothing we can do to change our heights . . . all we can do is complain together. I'm learning to embrace my height as I realize I cannot change it. Sometimes, it truly does work in my favor . . . especially when it comes to reaching the top shelves at the grocery store. Above all, love yourself, no matter how tall or short you were created to be.
