As warm weather approaches, and shorts season comes upon us, the time arrives for legs to be shaved and bodies to be bronzed. While some were blessed with naturally golden skin, easy to bake, others were a little less fortunate in the melanin department. Below is a list of struggles of being pale for my fellow pasty sisters.
1. Finding a foundation that matches your skin tone is nearly impossible.
No, it's fine. I didn't want my neck to match my face anyway.
2. And when you do find one, it usually has an offensive clever name that reminds you just how pale you actually are.
"Snow," "Porcelain," is that a joke?
3. Spray tanning leaves you looking splotchy and diseased.
Not to mention the fact that you smell like cat pee for six hours afterwards...
4. But regular tanning just results in 3rd degree sunburn.
Plus the whole "cancer" thing is kind of a downer...
5. You have a tendency to blend into the background of photos.
Somehow, when your friends filter group pictures, you're the only one who ends up looking paler.
6. Bruises look 10x worse on you than on tanner people.
I promise I'm not being abused...
7. Your legs and arms look moderately translucent in revealing clothing.
But constantly wearing pants does mean you don't have to shave your legs, so who's the real winner?
8. You think nothing of using 70+ SPF sunscreen...
Even if it means judgmental glances from the people using 15...
9. ..but still end up with sunburn no matter how much you put on.
Tan lines on tan lines.
10. It's insanely obvious when you blush.
"Your face is getting so red!!!"--- did I ask for your opinion?
11. Summer means the emergence of hundreds of freckles.
Honestly, I've lost count at this point.
12. You've been forced to deal with people calling you "ghost," and "Casper."
Which is super hilarious coming from someone whose skin will look like leather in 10 years.
No matter how hard things seem or how strongly society pushes the "tan" aesthetic, it is important to remember that everyone is beautiful, regardless of complexion. So pale girls, rock your shorts, own your freckles, and have a great spring and summer!
