12 Struggles All Book Lovers Understand

For a bibliophile, nothing is more comforting than the sweet escape of a book. You look for magic in every aspect of reality and never give up on dreams. You put up with the ignorance of Muggles and the disrespect towards of books common among Mundanes. You can’t wait for the day your favorite character sweeps you away to Hogwarts or Velaris and you live happily ever after. Perhaps your imagination has gone wild (or just your TBR pile), but one thing’s for sure, you're not alone in your book-lover struggles.

1. Your TBR pile never ends

New releases appear so much faster than you could possibly read them. Oh well.

2. An E-Book just isn’t the same

Your shelf may be overflowing, but it’s so beautiful to admire on a daily basis.

3. The movie is never as good as the book

The main actor is so not how you pictured the main character in your head.

4. You sacrifice sleep for some reading time

Only one hundred more pages . . . you can do it. Read now and sleep later.

5. You can’t stand lending your books to people

Not after that one incident. Never again will you let someone borrow your most prized possessions.

6. Most of your best friends are fictional

Those are the people you know best, the ones who never get on your nerves or treat you wrong.

7. You badly want to visit a place that doesn’t exist

From Hogwarts to the Shadow World to the Night Court, anywhere would be better than reality.

8. No one quite understands your obsessions

Why can’t people just accept that a book escape will always be better than Netflix?

9. Waiting for the sequel is so painful

Especially after that cliffhanger, how are you supposed to live for an entire year?

10. You can’t help binge-buying

You definitely need that shiny new addition, even if you have three copies already.

11. Your favorite author is everything

When her tour won’t come to your city, you consider flying across the country just to meet her.

12. So many books, so little time

You look forward to lazy days, reading the day away and catching up on your favorite books.

Perhaps no one will ever understand our struggles as avid book-lovers. However, we can rest assured that we aren’t the only people with book-buying problems or an unhealthy obsession with fictional characters. Keep holding on for the day your Hogwarts acceptance letter finally arrives in the mail.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
