Everybody loves Saturday night's in LSU's beloved football stadium, Death Valley. But, before the night game begins "game day" is of course done right. Game days in Baton Rouge are filled with fun, family, friends, and some killer food. Majority of the fans are not current students, but today I am going to give you the perspective of what a student usually goes through on a typical game day.
Many universities do Game Day very differently, but LSU's version has to be the best. If you haven't visited yet, I would encourage you to read this article and take notes so you can be prepared for what our game day has to offer.
1. Waking Up
It does not matter if you go to bed Friday night early or late, you still are exhausted either way. Until, you realize it’s game day!
2. Getting Ready
You, of course, go over to your friend’s dorm/apartment with your cute game day outfit and get ready there. You do your makeup and hair full out and perfectly even though you only know it will be ruined in a few short hours.
3. Leaving — the traffic
If you are like me and live off campus, you have to drive to get to the best tailgating areas. But, the horror of sitting through traffic is one you do not want to have to live through. Students that live on campus, consider yourself wise.
4. Walking in the heat
But of course, whoever is driving you cannot get close enough to drop you off right next to the tent, no! There are people walking, so all the streets are blocked off from anything convenient. Instead, you have to walk in the 100-degree weather.
5. Get to the tailgate
You are now finally at your tailgate. Even though your hair is fried, your clothes are sweaty and your makeup is halfway off, no one cares because everyone looks the same and there is no judgment. Except that one person who looks perfect, and you immediately cannot trust them. But, you play games, dance to music and have a great time for a few hours.
6. Walk to the game
This is probably the worst. There are huge crowds that you have to weave through. Everyone is trying to get to a limited number of gates, and you run into about half the people that are walking. Oh, and again it is scorching hot.
7. Wait in the student ticket line
This is the worst. All you want to do is get food and sit in your section with all your friends and enjoy the game, but, unfortunately, most students wait until right before the game to walk to the ticket gate. So, about three-quarters of the students are waiting in line all at once to get their tickets checked.
8. You get in
This pretty much explains it.
9. Get food
When you finally get in to the game, you are very excited, but the real exciting part is getting food because, I mean c’mon, you deserve it for the long day you have had. You are so happy to take that first bite, you could cry.
10. Find your seat and sit with your friends
After you have stood through a very long line to get into Tiger Stadium and bought your food with Paw Points, all you want to do is find your seats and sit with your friends and listen to the hype pregame songs Tiger Stadium provides. Because from this point on, nothing can go wrong!
11. Leave the game
There are two types of people: one, fans who attend the whole football game and sing the Alma Mater and two, those who leave early to re-touch makeup/hair, nap or go back to tailgating. Either way, you are going to be exhausted from cheering at the game and your all-day shenanigans.
12. Win or lose, you go out.
After your all-day tailgating and game activities, you should go to sleep, right? Ha, I wish, but no. We Tigers like to have a good time, and a good time is going out for about two or three hours to celebrate until our bodies need to lie down. But, rally, am I right? You have Sunday to sleep!
