Nothing screams Christmas like these few things...

I'm a huge fan of Christmas, and I've been counting down to it since last Christmas (devotion, ya'll). As soon as October rolls in, I start preparing myself for everything Christmas-related (even though I really can't start celebrating until after Thanksgiving). The best part of the holidays to me are the sights and smells that remind me of past holidays spent with my family and friends. If you're looking to immerse yourself in the scents of the season, just walk right on over to Bath and Body Works and pick up an armload of their holiday candles.

In the meantime, I've gone ahead and compiled a list of my absolute favorite scents that remind me of the holidays and put me in a better mood. Enjoy!

1. The crisp, cold air

Not sure if there's a definitive "scent" to this, but you get what I'm saying: that clean, cold smelling air. I can't describe it much better than this, but I'm sure everyone knows what I'm talking about.

2. Coffee

This is a given. Nothing puts me in a better mood than the smell of warm coffee, especially when I know that the Starbucks holiday drinks are out (and yes, I think they're better than the pumpkin spice latte, sorry)!

3. Grandma's house

Kind of weird, but I'm sure all of us have had a grandparent's house that we go to for the holidays, and the smell of their house just reminds you of Christmas.

4. Hot Chocolate

With marshmallows and whipped cream. Just like with coffee, this is another holiday favorite that I can't get enough of.

5. Christmas trees

This requires no explanation.

6. Chocolates

You know when you're walking through the mall and you come across a little candy vendor and that smell just hits you head on? Imagine that.

7. Peppermint anything

Whether it be candy canes, a peppermint flavored coffee, or mint chocolate candy, this is definitely a scent primarily associated with the holidays. Stick a few candy canes on your Christmas tree and you're good to go.

8. The smell of the heater

Is it weird that I enjoy this? Ok then, I can't be the only one. Especially the very first time you turn it on for the season.

9. S'mores

Ahh. That smell mixed in with the fireplace is perfection.

10. The kitchen when Christmas dinner is cooking

Nothing beats being in the kitchen on Christmas day when that meal is being prepared. Just step in and inhale.

11. Cinnamon

This is just another well-known scent of the season.

12. Fresh baked cookies

Either chocolate chip or the sugar cookies with Santa's face and the snowmen on them. They're Christmas necessities.

Hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
