Any single person can attest that these are some of the most common questions they get asked. Most of these question are very cringe worthy! After all, single people are often victims of integration and assumptions. We promise, we are happy, we are secure and we aren’t heading to the pet store to pick out a cat just yet.
1. "Are you seeing anyone?"
Obviously not, or else I probably would have mentioned it.
2. "Maybe you should be less picky."
Being picky is really not my problem. The quality of people is definitely a problem, though. Even so, there is nothing wrong with being picky. Better picky then settling for someone unworthy of the title of boyfriend or girlfriend.
3. "You must be so lonely."
Not really, since I have my friends, my family and Netflix.
4. "How are you still single?"
I'm not sure, you tell me. I'd love to hear your thoughts. *not*
5. "You should download Tinder."
Even if I had the phone storage for it, I wouldn't download Tinder.
6. "There are plenty of fish in the sea."
This saying is technically true, and sadly most of these "fish in the sea" have the personalities of goldfish.
7. "You must have so much free time."
Another myth. I don't have any more free time than the average college student. With what free time I do have, I invest the time in hobbies, shopping or making memories with friends.
8. "Are you even happy?"
Yes, because my happiness is in no way tied to whether I have a boyfriend or not.
9. "When is the last time you went on a date?”
You mean the awkward coffee date that conveniently ended right after I stated my religious beliefs? I'd love to tell you and relive that horrific event!
10. "You’re too busy anyway."
Because you have the knowledge to make this assumption? Did I leave my google calendar on public?
11. "I hope you like cats!"
I mean I do love cats, but I am a young person who has so much time to find someone special. The occupation of lonely cat person is in the distant, distant future.
12. "You’re such a catch!"
Single people are well aware that they are worthy of love, they just need to find the right person!
