12 Signs You Went to Archbishop Spalding High School
Panoramio

When I moved to California, the number one thing I missed was my amazing high school, Archbishop Spalding High School. I missed the students, the teachers, and the activities that kept the school alive. I created so many memories while at Spalding that I felt that I needed to do a "12 Signs You Went to (Blank)" article. So, take a trip down memory lane with "12 Signs You Went to Archbishop Spalding High School."

1. Wawa Isn't Just a Gas Station

To many people, Wawa is just a gas station with a pretty nifty store. But to Spalding students, Wawa is the place to be during lunch. Besides their amazing sandwiches and selection of snacks to bring back to campus, you were automatically cool if you went off campus for lunch.

2. BEST. CAFETERIA. EVER

I can honestly say that Archbishop Spalding has the best cafeteria. I remember during every lunch, my go-to meal was chicken tenders, french-fries and a strawberry smoothie. Oh, and don't forget those soft, freshly baked cookies.

3. Senior Year is Where It's At

At the end of each school year, after the Seniors have finished their finals and they complete their Senior activities, the grades 9-11 official take their future spots in the auditorium and the 11th graders can officially call themselves Seniors.

4. Senior Perks

Not only are you in your last year of high school but being a Spalding Cavalier, you have your perks. Like eating in the Senior Garden during lunch, Senior Vests, Senior Retreat, Senior Salute and Prom!

5. Junior Ring Ceremony

My last and best memory of Spalding was the Junior Ring Ceremony and dance where we received our Senior Class rings. Class of 2015's dance theme was "A Night in Paris."

6. Spirit Week & Tagging

That fun week in October that leads up to Homecoming was my favorite time of the year. Spirit Week consisted of Character Day, Wacky Tacky Day, Class Color Day and "Make Every Day Count" day which honors our beloved football coach, Coach Mike Whittles. Tagging was our way of showing our pride in our class. So, make sure not to bring anything valuable to school on Class Color Day!

7. We Bleed Red, Black, and White

Being a Spalding Cavalier, we are passionate about everything we do. Even if we lose a game, we are winners at heart and our school pride extends outside of the school halls.

8. Yelling "OHHHHH" during the National Anthem and "Our Alma Mater"

Whenever it was a home game, the visiting team would be a little curious why we were so pumped up during the National Anthem. But it just goes to show you that we have fun with everything we do.

9. Rule #1: Don't Talk About Senior Retreat

The secret trip that Seniors take happens all year round during Senior year. Underclassmen and Juniors know nothing of the details. They just have to wait and see.

10. Friday Night Lights

One of my most memorable moments took place on the main field at Spalding, during Friday Night games. After the Cheerleaders practiced and had a team dinner, we'd run out to the field to show our pride for the school!

11. One in Christ

Now don't forget, we are a Catholic High School. Our motto, "One in Christ" follows us even after we leave the halls.

12. Once a Cavalier, Always a Cavalier

What I've learned from being a Spalding Cavalier is that no matter where I go, no matter what school I attend, Archbishop Spalding High School will always and forever be my home away from home. I will miss even the tiniest things about Spalding, years after high school.

Ten Truths Every Honors Student Knows
Photo by Poodar Chu on Unsplash

One of the main reasons I came to Salem State was I was offered a spot in the honors program. While it offered many benefits, scholarships and priority registration to name a few, what drew me in was the strong sense of community and close knit friendships many found. I am glad to say that that I did find these things, and so much more. I found a home made up of some of the most brilliant and most unique people I have ever met. Being in an honors program creates a college experience unlike any other and creates some universal truths that really only an honors student can fully understand.

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?
