Floyd is a beautiful one stop light town in Virginia. It is full with amazing, wonderful people who come together as one big family.Floyd is a town where the music never stops playing.

1. Us town folk like to call ourselves "Floydians."

I honestly don't know how we got that name but it stuck. When I tell someone that I'm from Floyd County, they always ask "Where is that?" It is a never ending cycle. Floyd is a very special place, a place that everyone should visit if they ever come this direction. I promise, no one will regret it.

2. "The Black Water Loft" has the best coffee around!

The employees there make it a relaxing and comfortable place to hang out. It's the only place you'll stir your coffee with an uncooked noodle. How cool is that?!

3.The best place to be on a Friday night is Friday Night Jamboree at The Floyd Country Store.

Floyd is really big on music and arts. The best place to hear some really good bluegrass is at The Floyd Country Store. Most of us were taught to flat foot at the Friday Night Jamboree while growing up; it is honestly the best place to have a good time and be with the ones you love. The store also has an awesome selection of candy and ice cream. Now, their ice cream is really to die for!

4.Our town is known for "Floyd Fest."

Every year there is a huge four day festival on the Blue Ridge Parkway. There is a ton of different bands playing and so many vendors. I can't forget about the food, the food there is absolutely unreal! It is a great time and place to let loose and dance!

5. Buffalo Mountain is the best hiking spot in Floyd County.

The hike itself is 1.2 miles each way, so it is a very moderate trail. Every step is worth seeing this remarkable view. I could hike it every single day if I could! It is so breathtaking.

6. People who live outside of Floyd will think you live in the boonies.

We all have friends or family outside of Floyd who can't believe that most of us don't have neighbors. But we do have neighbors truth be told, we call them cows and horses!

7. If you went to Floyd County High School, everyone knows everything about you.

That is what happens when you live in a small town, word gets around fast. But I'd like to think even after years not seeing or talking to everyone, we will always be close.

8. "El Charro" is the best place to eat!

Even if you ate there the day before, you can't get enough!

9. You have to drive thirty to forty-five minutes to get to a mall or even a Walmart...

It is not necessarily a bad thing, we have a Food Lion and Slaughters Grocery. We also have a ton of small stores around the town.

10. There is always a big crowd at every high school sport event! More like a HUGE crowd.

Most every Floydian will come out to support our Buffaloes in any sport event. Our high school sport teams are incredible! The athletes are so talented and gifted. I'm proud to call myself a Buffalo! LETS GO BUFFS!!

11. An afternoon road trip to the parkway is a must.

The Blue Ridge Parkway was founded in 1936, it runs 469 miles through Virginia and North Carolina. It has many outlooks where you can park and sit and take in the views. One of their biggest attractions on the Parkway is Mabry Mill, shown above.

12. Graduating from high school is a huge milestone.

After getting the diploma, it makes the end of a big chapter in everyone's lives. There is always lots of crying and love being passed around. Saying good bye to all the teachers who helped you get here is one of the hardest things. One of the best things about graduating from Floyd County High is that the friends you made will be life long.

Floyd will always have a special place in my heart no matter where I go in life. I've met my life long friends here. This is the town that made me, me. It is a privilege and honor to be a Floydian.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
