12 Signs That You Grew Up In Washingtonville
Village of Washingtonville

Washingtonville is a tiny town that no one has ever heard of.

If you were fortunate enough to grow up here in this gem of a village, here are some things you will definitaly relate to.

1. No one knows where you live.

"Washingtonville? Never heard of it." Typical.

2. The only way you can explain where you live is with landmarks that aren't even in our town.

"It's in Orange County. Do you know where West Point is? It's close to there. Ever heard of the Woodbury Commons? I live like 10 minutes away from that. Basically, it's about an hour from NYC." And chances are...they still don't know where you live.

3. Can't hide that Wizard Pride!

No one really wanted to show it, but let's be real here. We all had and still have some wizard spirit! GO WIZARDS! #WIZARDNATION

4. Growing up, you most likely played some kind of sport.

Where you did snoopy soccer as a kid, played softball or baseball for Little League or were a cheerleader or football player as a part of WYFCL, we all did sports. Even if you just played as a kid or if you continued up to varsity in your senior year we all were somewhat sporty at one point or another.

5. Pizza, Chinese food and nail salons for days.

Let's be honest. Our tiny town is basically just made up of pizza places, Chinese food and nail salons.

6. Everyone has their favorite pizza spot.

Between Brother Bruno's, F&J's, Napoli's and Bella Luna...you probably favor one of these places over the others. For me, Bella Luna all the way. However, F&J's is definitely up there. And the mozzarella sticks at Brother Bruno's are top notch. Still, Bella Luna is my number one.

7. You hated it as a kid.

Literally everyone could not wait to get out of town.

8. But you now have a new found respect.

Coming back is really nostalgic and I think after graduation, we have a newfound appreciation for our little town.

9. You thought your elementary school was better than the rest.

Whether you attended Taft, Little Britian or Round Hill...you thought that your school was the best. I am team Taft all the way!

10. 2:00PM until 4:00PM in the center of town is a nightmare.

A word of advice: take the backroads as much as you can. Unless you want to spend forever to get from the high school to the library which should only take a minute or two.

11. Have fun finding something to do...

"Let's go do something". Well you could go to Weirs (everyone's favorite ice cream place!) but of course it has to be summer to do that. If it's nice out you could go to the skate park or Mays Field. That's basically it. You might want to make plans to go somewhere outside of Washingtonville.

12. We call it Washy...

Don't ask why...we just do. Probably because our name is sooooo long. Have you ever tried writing it on a line for an application? Yeah. It doesn't fit.

As much as you hate this town...don't lie. A little piece of you loves it.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
