12 Signs You Think Like A Nomad

I'm a globetrotter, a nomad, a gypsy, and I couldn't imagine my life any other way. I'm constantly traveling and seeking my next place to visit. It defines my character, my passions, and how I see my future.

Don't get this mistaken for someone who just loves traveling, because honestly, who doesn't? Everyone loves a good vacation or visiting a new place. Yes, there are people, like myself, who value traveling more than others. These types of people love the idea of a new adventure and seeing as much of the world as possible. It's truly a passion and they would much rather spend their work bonus on a two week trip to Switzerland than a new car.

However, I'm not just talking about my love for traveling but I'm defining myself as someone who moves around or travels freely without ties holding them back.

From when I was young, traveling and exploring new places had always intrigued me. I liked the idea that there were millions of places, people, and cultures in the world that were all completely different. Different food, different experiences, different architecture, different landscape. It almost worries me at times thinking it may be impossible for me to see every place in the world. But trust me, I will die trying.

Most people find moving terrifying. According to Pew Social Trends, more than 37 percent of the U.S. population will never move out of their hometown during the course of their entire life. More than 59 percent won't move out of the state they were born in.

To me, that is terrifying.

Maybe you live in an exceptional place or maybe you don’t have the resources to leave. However, most of the time this is unlikely the issue. It’s attachment to familiarity and fear of the unknown.

When you have a movers soul, you look at these people like they are crazy to not want to move and they look at you like you're crazy when you say you’d move anywhere if an opportunity presented itself.

A love for traveling isn’t the only thing that comes with “the heart of a gypsy” but also the ability to pick up your life and move somewhere new in the blink of an eye.

If you happen to be a part of this rare breed, then you have noticed there are ways we think and act differently.

  1. You look for opportunities that will be best for you regardless of location
  2. You do however look at opportunities based on cool locations you can see yourself moving to, even if its half way across the world
  3. Whether it's for work, personal reasons, or just to experience new places. So much good comes out of moving around such as Meeting new people, Experiencing new places, Trying new thing: food, culture, Learn more about yourself.
  4. You're constantly on Pinterest, trip advisor, and yelp searching attractions and restaurants in completely random cities
  5. You have an extensive bucket list and vision board
  6. You have huge dreams because location isn't a limit.
  7. Attachments worry you. You will make the important attachments work and you'll plan to constantly visit or bring it along; however, if it can possibly get in the way of your nomadic lifestyle - it's out.
  8. You understand the concept that everything is temporary- always being on the move and having an ever-changing state of mind lets you appreciate what you have and no it's not permanent.
  9. Being accepting and curious are major parts of our character. Curiosity leads our love for travel. It kindles the itch to go to a new place, it's not enough to hear about it - we need to experience it first hand. Accepting comes along with the nomad lifestyle. Accepting of change, of people, of cultures, we open our arms wide to every aspect of the world.
  10. You trust your instincts and making in the moment decisions is what gets you to keep going. When going to different places there are a lot of obstacles, language barriers, money conversions, whatever it may be.
  11. People, places, and embracing a new culture is how you learn best. You can't remember who all the presidents are or that famous monument, but you can list all the best food places in New York and how many steps it takes to climb the Duomo. You can talk about different groups of people and cultures like they are your own.
  12. It doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve lived in a million places, but you think about your life in a new city all the time. Not that you are unhappy where you are but picking up and living somewhere new is a journey that excites you.
