Welcome to Flatbush. Although it has many other names like East Flatbush, Midwood, Flatbush Junction, or even The Junction.
No matter what it's called, it will always be the place where I spent the first 15 years of my life. And in that timeframe, there have been A LOT of changes, just like with any other neighborhood. In this case however, the area where Flatbush and Nostrand Avenues connect has almost become unrecognizable. So without further ado, here's a list of things that will make you feel all the more nostalgic.
1. You remember either walking over or driving under the Brooklyn College Bedford Avenue Underpass.
They tore it down in 2005 to build the West Quad. Today, the area it looks like this:
2. You never went in here, but you always walked past it
Today, Flatbush Federal Savings is now a Dallas BBQ's (I don't know why either).
3. These two trains can pretty much take you to any train you need to connect to.
4. Before this:
There was this:
(And before that was For Goodness Steak and Blockbuster. But you get the idea.)
5. No matter what time of day, these bus stops are ALWAYS crowded.
6. You more than likely got your comic books from Bulletproof.
7. And you probably went to Zelda's to get your art supplies (and the lanyard, which was 50 cents)
8. Unless you absolutely have to, walking to Avenue H to catch the Q train is pretty much avoided.
9. At some point you've had an argument over which one had the better pizza:
R.I.P. Luigi's
10. You or most of your friends went to either P.S. 152 or P.S. 315
You also remember when P.S. 152 had a FULL schoolyard. *gives the NYC Department of Education the biggest side eye*
11. This was the meetup/hangout spot after school.
12. And finally, before this eyesore was built, it used to be Brooklyn College's Municipal Parking Lot (and a great place to have running races! Or to just cut through traffic)
