Romantic comedies, the typically light-hearted genre that often ends with the couple being very happily together. Oftentimes some interesting and hilarious situations occur in the relationship process, which I think just adds to the amusement. I think the challenges along the way make the couple ending up together in the end even greater since they worked for it. If this is your all time favorite movie genre, then this is right up your alley! I'm listing just 12 of my personal favorites, although there are so many more that could be included (no disrespect to the many not included!).
1. The Proposal
Margaret (Sandra Bullock) forces her assistant, Andrew (Ryan Reynolds), to marry her to prevent her deportation to Canada. The winning combination of Ryan Reynolds, Sandra Bullock and Betty White makes this particular movie special and it never gets old.
2. 13 Going on 30
Jenna (Jennifer Garner) makes a wish on her 13th birthday to be grown-up. She wakes up the next day as a 30-year-old. This movie is hilarious and relatable because being a teenager was hard.
3. First Daughter
Katie Holmes stars as Samantha, the first daughter who is heading off to college and falls for a graduate student who is more than just that. Although most college students do not have secret service following them around, many of the things Samantha experiences are similar to a "normal college experience."
4. Serendipity
Jonathan (John Cusack) and Sara (Kate Beckinsale) run into each other while shopping and began to fall for each other. When they parted ways, Sara thinks they should leave it up to fate if they see one another again. The movie follows their lives from the moment of their meeting.
5. Something Borrowed
Rachel (Ginnifer Goodwin) has loved Dex (Colin Egglesfield) forever but he's engaged to her best friend Darcy (Kate Hudson). As you can imagine, this movie tests relationships.
6. Legally Blonde
Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) is dumped by her boyfriend because he's going to law school so she follows him to Harvard. Then, she schools everyone who thought she was just a "dumb blonde."
7. 50 First Dates
Henry (Adam Sandler) falls for Lucy (Drew Barrymore) and they really hit it off. The next day, she has no idea who he is. This makes for a very complicated relationship.
8. My Best Friend's Wedding
When a woman finds out her best friend is engaged, she realizes that she loves him. This is her adventure trying to breakup his wedding.
9. Crazy, Stupid, Love.
Emily (Julianne Moore) asks for Cal (Steve Carrell) a divorce, so he seeks the help of Jacob (Ryan Gosling). This is the interconnected tale of his experience trying to get his wife back.
10. Made Of Honor
Tom (Patrick Dempsey) is in love with his best friend, but she asks him to be her maid of honor. Then, he tries to win her over.
11. Mamma Mia!
Sophie wants to find her dad before she gets married. The only problem is, her dad could be one of three guys.
12. Ghost Of Girlfriends Past
Connor (Matthew McConaughey) is haunted by his girlfriends of the past while preparing for his brother's wedding. Perhaps this will change his perspective on marriage, since he is a serial-womanizer?
Do you love these movies as much as I do? If not, what are your favorite "rom-coms"?
