Nothing gets people to whip their hair and get up and dance quite like a good throwback. However, instead of giving you the same list of artists we all know rocked our early middle and high school years, I'm going to feature people other than the classic T-Pain, Usher and Soulja Boy line up. This list is all about the ladies that the guys grew up thirsting over and the girls wanted to be. So here's 12 bada** females that taught us all how to be a queen.
12. Miley Cyrus:
Putting aside the fact that Miley's new hobbies include licking foam fingers and dressing like an adult baby, we know she deserves a spot amongst the woman who made us. In her early days we "had the best of both worlds" and were given classics such as: "7 things", "The Climb" and "If We Were a Movie". So whether you like the new wrecking-ball-riding Miley or not, you can't dismiss the fact that you know all the words to "Party In the USA", and will recite them whenever that familiar tune is played. Besides, Miley did teach us, nobody's perfect.
11. Demi Lovato:
From screaming "THIS IS REAL THIS IS ME, I'M EXACTLY WHERE I'M SUPPOSED TO BE NOW" for an entire summer, or crying when those impossible notes in skyscraper were reached, Demi never ceases to blow our minds. This girl can become the power source of the stage, which she proves in her hit "Heart Attack". Or sweep us off our feet with smoother sounds, featured in "Catch Me". Either way she is a strong woman and will take her place at number 11.
10. Selena Gomez:
We first fell in love with Selena when she was scrubbing floors in "Another Cinderella Story". She taught us all how to show some attitude with "Tell Me Something I Don't Know" and her dance moves added to the appeal. She was "the" girl Justin Bieber chose to date, and the voice behind "Who Says" and "Come & Get it". Her soft features and overall sexy allure, lands her in spot number 10.
9. Shakira:
The reason all us 90s girls learned how to dance, was ultimately so we could move our hips like Shakira. We all wanted to have "hips that didn't lie", and indubitably tried to emulate the Spanish beauty as best we could. We also all know in 2010, it was impossible to song singing 'Waka Waka, eh eh" on a continuous loop. Gracias Shakira, por ser un modelo para niñas de todo el mundo!
8. Avril Lavigne:
This girl made an oversized hoody, ripped jeans and a rebellious attitude the next big thing. Avril brought out the inner sk8er girl out in all of us. She taught us how to rock pink highlights, and wear converse with dresses. When I look back to the queens of the 2000s, Avril rightfully fits in, teaching girls to rock out and not give a da**.
7. Carrie Underwood:
This list just wouldn't be right without a little country. Whether you love her because she writes THE best break up songs, or because she is the definition of 'leg goals", we can all agree she consistently kills it. She taught every girl that if a boy breaks your heart, you should knock out his taillights. Coincidentally, she was also every boy's background in the seventh grade. This hometown honey truly knocked us all dead with songs like "Blown Away" and "Somethin Bad". Somehow, Carrie perfectly balances the bad girl act with the image of America's sweetheart, placing her at number seven.
6. P!nk:
If there is one girl who deserves to be given the bada** award its Mrs. P!nk. From the "Don't Let me Get Me" music video, to her beautiful collaboration with Nate Ruess on "Just Give Me A Reason", she is a true rockstar. Through her inspiring words in "Fu***** Perfect", we girls have learned its okay to be a misfit. P!nk has taught us to let out our inner crazy. She taught us how to be daring, and for that she will be taking spot number six.
5.Ke$ha:
Ke$ha awoke the inner party girl in all of us. She taught us how to throw a killer party, and that you can never have enough glitter. Songs like "Tik Tok", "Your Love is My Drug", "Crazy Kids", and "Die Young", were all the rage at everyone's co-ed middle school parties.
4. Lady Gaga:
Reaching our number four spot is Lady G, the only woman to ever fashionably accessorize a meat platter. 90s kids remember her best for songs like "Just Dance", "Poker Face", and "Bad Romance". Gaga has definitely solidified her "weird" factor over the years. However, she is equally as sophisticated. Her power and beauty make all us 90s girls want to strut around with our claws up reciting the famous "Rah rah ah-ah-ah, Ro mah ro-mah-mah, Gaga oh-la-la, Want your bad romance!".
3.Rihanna:
RiRi was and still is one of my all time favorite 90s queen. She rocks every hair color, cut and style, while strutting her stuff with mile long legs. We needed a girl like this, to create songs that could pick our sad self's up and find our strength again. So chances are all the strong independent girls you know, have learned a thing or two from Rihanna.
2. Nicki Minaj:
Nicki Minaj. Need I say more? We all remember when we first got a glimpse of her in "Bed Rock". However, it wasn't until she came out with the song that everyone knew but can never sing fast enough, "Super Bass", that she was truly established as an iconic female rapper. She has grow into an element all her own by creating her own perfumes and albums. Nevertheless, if a group of 90s girls is within a 30 mile radius of someone playing her solo in "Bottoms Up", you better believe they will be dancing and singing to every last word. Thanks to Nicki we know that if some guy tells you you're looking fine, and you're "feelin' yourself" just reply:
1. Beyoncé:
Now obviously at number one we have the one and only Queen B. The Queen that all of these queens learned from. Beyoncé embodies the heart, talent and beauty that any and every girl, admires and strives to be like. Every party since 2008, has slipped "Single Ladies" into their playlist and songs like Halo have become apart of the sound track to our lives. Yoncé, you truly run the world, and you taught all us girls that we do too.
When any of these throwback's start to play, one becomes overtaken with wonderful feelings of nostalgia and pure happiness. You probably go a little nuts yelling to everyone around you that "this is your girl!", or just grabbing your best friend uncontrollably. My apologies to the innocent by stander who has to witness this kind of feminine reaction, but unfortunately there is nothing you can do to stop them from singing every word.
