This year John Hughes' classic coming-of-age film The Breakfast Club turned 30 years old. Even though the movie is set in 1985, the themes still prove to be accurate and relatable today. When I watched The Breakfast Club for the first time when I was in high school, I found a million reasons to fall in love with it starting with the David Bowie quote that prefaced the movie and ending with John Bender. Here are just a few reasons how The Breakfast Club has stayed relevant through 2015.
1. It feels great to break from the mold and let loose once in a while.
2. Sometimes you have days where you're not really feeling yourself. Brian gets that.
3. But then there are other days where everything just clicks and you look and feel amazing.
4. Everyone has their priorities.
5. There's a reason people don't stay at home forever.
6. We don't live in a perfect world and that's OK.
7. There's really no shame in not having hooked up with someone.
8. And yet, in 2015, there's still a sort of a stigma where you need to sleep around but you can't tell anyone about it.
9. You wish you could stand up to authority like John Bender can.
10. Everyone has different interests.
11. We all have our own brand of weird.
12. And lastly, John Bender. What is there to say about John Bender besides ;)
