Dogs know you better than anyone else; they know you inside and out. They will never be mad at you, and when you're around them you're always happy; they'll never let you down. Every day with your dog is a new adventure and they are probably more excited about it than you because who better to spend the day with than their best friend? Most of all, they make the best pets. They are always there when you most need it and make sure they show how much they love you.

1. You can never stay mad at them.

You yell at your dog for taking a cookie off the plate. He jumps back immediately, ears go down and walks away. Minutes later he comes up to you while you're sitting down and gives you a look like this. How can you possibly be mad with a look like that? You'll take a deep sigh, smile, and remember why you were mad at them in the first place. Dogs simply need reassurance that you still love them even after they make a mistake.

2. They always get excited when you mention the word "walk."

One of a dog's favorite words is "walk," so when you ask them if they want to go on one, their reaction probably looks something like this. Going outdoors is one of their favorite things so of course they'll jump around with glee when they hear where they are going. Chances are, when you ask them to go on a walk you'll be out there for more than that.

3. They can't wait for you to return home.

Dogs know when their owner leaves and they anxiously await your arrival back. As soon as they hear the front door open their ears will pop up and they'll jump with glee because their favorite person in the world is finally home! They can't wait for you to take them out of their cage and continue the day right where you left it.

4. They always tell you when it's time to get up.

They are the perfect alarm clock. Dogs always wake up ready for a day of play, so they make sure their owner knows it too! They can't start their day unless everyone is awake, because after all, they have to have the most attention in the house.

5. They are always smiling for pictures.

Dogs are the best to take selfies with; they are always smiling and ready for the camera. Taking pictures is another way for you two to capture the moment and share it with your friends. Dogs make silly faces just like you, so who better to show your foolish side to than your pet?

6. They are the best to cuddle with.

If you're ever feeling lonely and need someone to cheer you up, look no further than your dog. No matter where you're sitting or lying down, your dog will make the best cuddle buddy; your lap is their favorite place to lay and will make themselves feel right at home. They not only make your bed warmer on a cold night, but they also make great pillows.

7. They are great listeners.

Dogs are always there to listen; you can tell them your deepest darkest secrets and don't have to worry about them being spread. You can lie in bed late at night and vent to them about what's going on inside your head good or bad. The best part about it? They won't judge; to them it's another way of showing how much you care.

8. They show you how much they love you.

Who needs a significant other to remind you how much they love you? Dogs will always show their compassion for you whether it's with sloppy kisses, a look, or a hug. They want to show how much you mean to them and always will.

9. They are always ready for an adventure.

Dogs are always ready for adventures; they love the car and make the best co-pilots. You can turn on the radio and jam out to your favorite tune. As long as the windows are down they don't care.

10. They make the holidays way more enjoyable.

Costumes make the holidays ten times better; but what's better than that is putting your dog in them. If you think your costume looks silly, try it out on them! Even better, have them be your accessory! You'll always get a good laugh once you see them, but it's just another memory you can put in you scrapbook.

11. They are always looking for a belly rub.

It's their way of showing that they trust you. By earning a dog's trust, they know that you'll always be there for them. They can come to you when they are feeling sad, happy, want attention, or simply their stomach pet. As soon and you give them one, they'll be begging for another.

12. They are your best friend.

Dogs will always be loyal to you and will show it in every way possible. You'll find yourself doing everything with them: going on walks, to the movies, shopping, long car rides. They are always willing to do or try something new no matter how scary or crazy it is; they'll never let you down. And when you're not with them, you're waiting until you reunite again.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
