12 Reasons We Love Providence College

There are so many reasons to love PC, but I limited myself to 12.

12 Reasons We Love Providence College
Huffington Post

Providence college is my home away from home and a place I've grown to love dearly over the past year. Many upperclassmen are eager to be back, settling in for their new fall semester, while the freshman don't know what to expect.

Here's a list of all the things us PC kids love about our school.

1. Prettiest campus in the country.
This is a highly debated fact, but one I firmly believe. The reality is Instagram doesn't lie, and PC kids just love showing off their campus off on their favorite social media outlet.

2. Golf Party.
Also referred to as a PC Christmas by some. It takes place twice a year and is the most colorful photo-op of the semester. How many other schools dress up in Lilly and Vineyard Vines and have a campus-wide party twice a year?

3. Our nationally-ranked sports teams.
No matter what the sport, our teams are always bringing home trophies. From men's soccer winning Big East this past season to being National Champions in hockey, you really can't go wrong screaming, "Go Friars!"

4. Being a Part of the Friar Family.
One of the best parts about being a PC student or alumni is that you manage to bond with complete strangers over your love for your school. Honestly, this is one of the best experiences of being a PC student.

5. Basically free laundry.
One of the best perks has to be the fact that we can do as much laundry whenever we want with the hassle of coins or card swipes. When all my friends come together on breaks, I'm never the one complaining about how much laundry costs.

6. Restaurants and food availability.
Between Big Tony's and La Salle Bakery, I cannot manage to lose any weight. Surrounded by quality food choices is one of the biggest perks of living in Providence.

7. Dunkin Cam (and Secret Starbucks Cam)
One of the best inventions ever in my opinion, it saves me a long wait or allows me to get heinous screenshots of my unaware friends. P.S. For those of you who don't know, there's also a super-secret Starbucks Cam that is much less advertised.

8. City proximity.
Even though it's a blessing and a curse, being right beside the city has its perks. The mall and movie theater are just a RIPTA ride away. Plus, let's not even mention the perks of having Uber.

9. Studying on the quad.
Nothing is better than a good or assigned book in your hand and the sun shining above you. The real question is, why does it ever have to snow?

10. Alumni > Ray
The only thing I dread about coming back to school is the food. Alumni, take three, and expensive meal options have become my lifeline when eating another grilled chicken salad isn't cutting it. Very few of us are obsessed with or even like Ray (We still love you, Jackie) for good reason.

11. Small class sizes.
It might sound completely nerdy, but I love my small class sizes. It gives you a chance to get to know your peers and professors a lot better, and hey, socialization is good sometimes!

12. Intramurals.
Last but not least is the most popular and competitive event on PC's small campus. We were just voted No. 1 by the Princeton Review for our intramurals for good reason. If you don't want one of the coveted intramural champion T-shirt, you're doing PC wrong.

Providence College has so many things to love beyond even the reasons I listed. Everyone's experience is completely unique, and there are so many different things we each love about our small liberal arts school. At the end of the day, I love any reason that gives me an excuse to scream, "Go Friars!" and support my school.

Peace, Love, & PC

Creating your schedule for the upcoming semester can be an exciting process. You have the control to decide if you want to have class two-days a week or five-days a week. You get to check things off of your requirement checklist. It's an opportunity for a fresh start with new classes (which you tell yourself you'll never skip.) This process, which always starts out so optimistic, can get frustrating really quickly. Here are 25 thoughts you have when registering for classes.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
