Eckerd College

A lot of people love their colleges. They love the friends they've made, the experiences they've had and the newfound independence that comes with college life. At Eckerd College, there's a lot to love. People come from all over the country (and the world) to study at Eckerd's beachside campus, and here's some of the reasons why:

1. The Views

The campus is located on the water, so the views are unbeatable pretty much everywhere. Even the library has an amazing view of the sunset, which makes studying a little less painful.

2. The Weather

Warm weather all year round means a constant tan and the ability to always be outside. One of the great things about Eckerd is that they're always encouraging students to "think outside," which is why there aren't any hallways at Eckerd, and all classrooms open right to the outdoors. It's a creative alternative to being stuck in a building all day.

3. The Eckerd "quirks"

We have an alligator on campus. We have a holiday called Jayzeaster where pictures of Jay-Z get plastered across the school. We have a bike program where you can pick up a yellow bike left anywhere on campus and ride it to class. Just to name a few.

4. Kappa Field

How many people can say they get out of class and go tanning? In February? With a waterfront view?

5. The Waterfront

Kayaking and paddle boarding are fun. If the equipment is free to rent, it's even more fun. At the waterfront, everything is free to students. Not to mention, you see some sort of marine animal (usually dolphins or manatees) almost every time you go out on Boca Ciega Bay.

6. Kappa Karnival

Right before finals, Eckerd sets up carnival rides and free food for everyone. Just another unique event that make Eckerd such a great place to go to school.

7. The Parties

Most Eckerd parties are outside and have some outrageous theme to go with them. During your time at Eckerd, you'll make many trips to the dollar store and Walmart for outfits.

8. The People

Since everyone comes from so far away, you get to hear all about what their life is like in their hometown/state. You meet so many people from states you've never even visited. Not to mention, everyone on campus is friendly and accepting.

9. Splash Bash

Basically a huge raft party in the bay. There's slides, food, and music. It's the ultimate Eckerd party.

10. First Friday

Free transportation to Downtown St. Pete on the first Friday of every month!

11. The Outfits

At Eckerd, pretty much anything goes. You can walk barefoot to class or throw a Hawaiian shirt over your bikini. Everyone dresses like they're going to the beach, all the time.

12. The Pets

Even if you don't have a pet on campus, there are plenty walking around or playing on Kappa field. You never have to worry about missing your pet from home, because there are plenty for you to pet on campus.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
