12 Reasons to Love the 12th Month of the Year
Maria Magidenko

Back in October, I wrote a list of reasons to love October, because it is my absolute favorite month. Now, I am back with a list of reasons to love December. My reason? It is my second favorite. There is just something in the air at this time of the year. If you are not feeling it yet, maybe this list will help.

12. The end of the semester.

Yes, you have to struggle through finals first, but there is definitely something satisfying about completing the semester. You have accomplished a lot throughout the past few months. Celebrate your academic achievements or at least survival of the semester.

11. Winter break.

No classes, no assignments, and plenty of time for friends and family. Winter break is universally applied in some capacity. And after making it through the semester, you deserve it.

10. Snow is still tolerable.

If you live farther north, you are not sick of the snowfall yet. It is pretty and enjoyable for the first month or two, but having to shovel and drive through it for six months...not so much.

9. Christmas music.

The happiest genre. As long as you do not overplay it, it has the capacity to cheer you up and fill you with childlike wonder and magic.

8. Decorations.

Whether in the storefront or on a house, the lights, streamers, garlands, and mistletoe look stunning. The buildings are just as dressed up and celebratory as the people.

7. Christmas trees.

Yes, this is technically part of the decorations, but it is its own breed. The ornaments, the stars, the lights make the tree a particularly memorable December staple that I always look for.

6. Holiday parties.

Formal or not, these parties are a great opportunity to gather with those you care about and celebrate your holiday of choice. And who does not love a good party?

5. The food.

Candy canes, gingerbread, eggnog, peppermint, roasted nuts...I confess that I am a sucker for the seasonal flavors and meals. It is comfort food season, the best season.

4. Sleigh rides.

I have not been on one in ages, but it is always a fun activity to do in the winter. If you do not have access to horses or a sleigh, sleds are pretty good substitutes.

3. Playing in the snow.

Whether you prefer skiing or a snowball fight, this is the time to get outdoors and frolic in the fresh snow.

2. The holidays.

Nearly every religion seems to have some holiday that falls in December. Whether you anticipate getting presents from Santa or look forward to lighting candles, it is a time of celebration.

1. The beginning, the end.

One year is coming to a close as another begins. Whether you are over 2016 and ready for 2017 or sad to see the year go, it is a time for reflection and celebration. Just do not start working on your New Year's resolutions until after the conclusion of this month.

Happy December!

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
