12 Reasons Why Living 5 Minutes From The Beach Is The Best Thing Ever
Alec Pulvidente

Most people love the beach with the ocean the sun and good friends. During the summer time some people just can't get enough of it; however, it isn't always that easy for everyone to get to the beach in the summer. Between work and trying to physically pack up and get there at a decent time to make it worth while to go. That is why living in West Islip is one of the best things ever, only 5 minutes away to Robert Moses Beaches and we can decide morning of if we are going.

1. You Can Decide Day Of If You Want To Go.

When you live only five minutes from the beach there is no need to worry about planning the night before if you will be going to the beach. You can wake up at any time roll out of bed look out the window and then decide to hit the beach for a few hours. Many days during the summer my friends and I will text each other the morning of to head to the beach together.

2. There Is No Preparation And Planning.

There is no need to plan and prepare for the beach. Most likely all of your beach stuff will already be ready to go. We are lucky that we live so close that we don't have to make going to the beach a whole production. We get to roll out of bed the morning of, hop in the car and go straight to the beach with just your beach towel and a couple of things.

3. You Don't Feel Bad If You Only Stay For An Hour.

Since you live so close to the beach you don't feel bad if you don't stay that long. Some people have to drive a while to get here, but since you are only five minutes away it isn't a big deal to go even if you are only going to be there for an hour or two. We'll do anything for at least an hour of beach time.

4. You Can Go In The Middle Of The Day And Still Get Good Beach Vibes.

Even if you go to the beach smack in the middle of the day or in the late afternoon you will still have an amazing time. There is nothing that can damper a great beach day. You can miss all of your alarms to get up early, but it doesn't matter and there is no reason to worry since at that point you'll most likely miss the traffic and be able to fly right there!

5. You'll Most Likely End Up Splashing Into Yours Or A Friends Pool After.

Every beach day usually ends in someone's pool. Living so close means that we can head on home when we have had enough of the sandy shore to relax and wash off in the pool.

6. Knowing Someone Who Works The Booths.

If you live close to the beach you most likely have a friend or two who work at one of the booths at the fields. This is great because whenever you go you don't have to worry about paying the ten dollars to get in.

7. You Know The Tricks With The Summer Beach Pass.

Whether you have a friend who works at the beach or not you most likely know the tricks with the summer beach pass. You used to only be able to buy one pass and stick it on one car, which created a problem if you needed to take a different car to the beach. So what most of us would do to make this situation a little better is laminate the sticker so you can move it from car to car. However, now they have come out with a new version of the sticker by making it into a card so all you have to do is show it at the booth.

8. You Get Fancy And Learn To Go On The Drive On Beach.

After going to the beach for so many years with your family you eventually end up on the drive on beach at some point. This is great because it is like you're camping out on a private beach with a bunch of other families.

9. You Can Be At The Beach Almost Every day If You Want To Be.

It is easy to get to the beach almost every day if you want to be there. Even if it is just for an hour or two each day you can make it happen.

10. The Fire Island Lighthouse Is Right There.

The Fire Island lighthouse is also right there next to the beaches. It is easy to take a nice walk around the lighthouse or if you want an even better view whether you have seen it already or not it always a breathtaking view of the island!

11. You Probably Go For Beach Laps.

Beach laps are popular if you live close by. This is basically just a drive to the beach and back because you either have nothing to do/going on or you just really want to enjoy the views that the bridge and beaches give you. We even do this during the winter.

12. You Know You Can Make The Drive Out To Bubba's For A Late Lunch Instead Of Eating At The Shack.

Ending a perfect beach day with Bubba's is the way to go, there is no other way to end it. Bubba's burritos are the perfect after beach meal that you must go and get. It is a summer must!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
