1.You want to go to school on Friday.

The best reason as to why you shouldn't go to Johnson and Wales is because you want to have school on Friday. While some majors may offer classes on Friday, most don't, but who wants a three day weekend? Certainly not you.

2. You enjoy sitting in your dorm.

Providence is a beautiful city with so much to do. Whether it's Waterfire in the Fall or ice skating in the Winter, there is always something going on. But if you like to stay in your dorm, watch Netflix every night, and not have a good time, then don't go here.

3. You hate to travel.

You hate that Johnson & Wales has four campuses which you can transfer to at any time you wish. This college allows you to explore other cities while still focusing on your academics. If you don't want to have options, then I’d choose another school!

4. You don't want to do what you love.

The very first day of your freshman year, you take classes pertaining to your major. Instead of waiting for junior year, you can do what you love right away. Don't know what you love, yet? That's ok, too. If you simply don't want to do what you love and start your career right away, think twice about coming here.

5. You have no school spirit.

Johnson & Wales is home of the Wildcats where we have many competitive sports teams. Whether it's watching the girls volleyball team make history, or getting rowdy at the hockey games- supporting your school is the second best thing right behind winning. Having school spirit gives you a sense of pride and belonging but hey, maybe not everyone wants that.

6. You don’t want your professors to actually know your name.

At Johnson & Wales, were lucky enough to attend classes that are no bigger than 25 students each (most of the time). That means not getting lost in a lecture hall of 300+ other students, and you’ll actually get the opportunity for your professor to know your name. Crazy, I know!

7. You don't want to have an Internship that is right up your alley.

At Johnson & Wales, you get the opportunity to meet your professors before classes even start, you get the chance to get to know them, know them; and the best part of all is that they will get to know you as long as you let them. At Johnson and Wales University, the professors care, and they want you to get the most out of everything you do while you're here. So, with that being said, they will dedicate some time to you to take what they know about you, and what you want to do for the rest of your life- and they'll figure out what is the best internship opportunity for you.

8. You actually want to enjoy your dining hall’s food.

If you want to go to a school where the dining hall food is actually edible, and won’t send you right to your dorm room bathrooms- do not come to Johnson & Wales. Whether it’s City Burger, Snowden, B.Y.O.B, Red Sauce, or Harborview- you could be Down City or Harborside- but you will not be able to find a dining hall facility that provides you with a meal that doesn’t make your stomach turn.

9. If you don’t mind taking a 15-minute ride to your car…

...then Johnson & Wales University is the school for you. At Johnson & Wales, the Downcity campus does not have its own parking garage onsite, that means every time you want your car, you have to take a 15 minute (or sometimes longer) hike to the Harborside campus just to get to your car.

10. If you hate snow days.

Not just Johnson & Wales specifically, but at any sign of snow, the whole New England region quickly prepares for the storm, and calls off school at the first sight of a flurry. If you hate snow days, then do not come to Rhode Island.

11. If you cannot stand the word “wicked”

Yes, we know- the words very, so, or extremely, will all suffice. But if you’re a New Englander, the word "wicked" is seen as fluently as a snow storm in Rhode Island. If you’re from Massachusetts, it’s a given that they will use the word “wicked” in every other sentence. So, if you can’t stand the word “wicked,” you do not belong at Johnson & Wales.

12. If you enjoy to sleep in complete silence...

...then do not come to Johnson & Wales! Whether it’s a long drag of a car horn, the blaring sound of an ambulance or police car siren, or a homeless person getting into an altercation outside of Seven Eleven- you do not belong in the heart of Providence if you can’t sleep through the sounds of this crazy city! They say that New York City is the city that never sleeps, but Providence is definitely a tie for first place- I suggest ear plugs if you choose JWU.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

Find excitement in your life and start exploring wherever you are right here, right now.

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…
