Having a dog is one of the biggest blessings you can experience in life. They make such an impact on you in the short time you get to spend with them. There are dogs needing homes wherever you go, and you could be that home. Not yet convinced? Here are 12 reasons everyone should get their very own paw-fect pet.

1. Dogs are great listeners

Whether you had a crappy day or you just can't get over how they forgot the whipped cream on your frappuccino, a dog will always be there to listen. They will sit with you for hours just to hear you complain; usually you have to pay a therapist to do that, so I guess you are saving some money too.

2. Dogs are great cuddle buddies

What I should say is they are great sleepers and great pushing-you-off-the-bedders. Dogs are cool because you can Netflix and chill with them without the awkwardness of what the word "chill" really means.

3. Dogs are your own personal vacuum

When you are a messy eater like me, you have just come to terms with the fact that you will drop something on yourself at some point while eating. Don't worry though, because your dog will be right there to pick it up.

4. Dogs are just cute

Need I say more?

5. Dogs teach you to care about something other than yourself

Dogs are a lot of responsibility, but you love them so all the work is worth it. I am convinced I love my dog more than I will love my first child, so of course I do everything I can for her.

6. Dogs are protectors

Dogs have great ears, and chances are they will hear an intruder before you do. I am also convinced dogs have a good judgement of personality, so if your dog does not like someone, you probably shouldn't either.

7. Dogs are great workout partners

If you do not interact with your dog enough, especially as puppies, they will annoy you until you do. Though this can be annoying, it forces you to get exercise when you probably wouldn't have before. They are also great running partners!

8. Dogs are never boring

Whether it is their weird barks or laughing at them chasing their tail, you are never really bored. And you can teach them new tricks!

9. Dogs help relieve stress

Being someone with anxiety, having my dog by my side can take my stress from a 10 to about a 5. She is very perceptive of the way I am feeling and usually tries her best to make me feel better, like licking the tears off my face.

10. Dogs are ALWAYS a viable topic of conversation

From showing your coworkers the latest pic of your pup on your phone or telling you friends of the new trick your dog learned, you will always have something to talk about.

11. Dogs are a man's best friend

Do not take this one lightly, your dog can be the best thing that has come into your life. They will love unconditionally and without bounds.

12. You are your dog's entire world

This is by far the most important, and the one that should be considered before deciding on getting a dog. Dogs are a lot of commitment, but it is so worth it. A dog knows nothing of the world but you, so make sure what they know of you is all good things.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
