12 Reasons Why Nannying Is The Best Job Ever

Working during the summer always seems like the hardest time to try and motivate yourself to get up and go to work. Well, it may be hard for an ordinary job, but having my job as a nannying makes it pretty easy to wake up early and spend my summer days working. Nannying is such a different job from anything else. I love going to work every day and seeing my five kids who have truly become family to me. This is why I find being a nanny to be one of the best jobs ever.

1. The Hugs

There is nothing like getting to work at 9am and receiving a big hug as your welcome. The goodbye hugs are what makes it hard to leave.

2. I get to do kids things and not be judged for it.

You wanna go down the slide at the playground? Go for it, everyone just thinks you are doing it for the kids, but in reality, you just want to race your kid down the slides.

3. The Disney movies

Kids have to experience all the Disney movies right? And I mean they need adult supervision I can't just let them sit on the couch alone. . . they might fall off.

4. I get to actually do the stuff I pin on my Pinterest boards.

Wanna make a butterfly cake? Sure! Wanna have a paint war? Let's do it! Outside of course. Or there are about 5,000 things we can do with pool noodles.

5. I rarely get bored because we never have to do the same things

There are endless field trips we can go on and enjoy the summer weather. There is always a different art project to do; you know from my Pinterest board. There is no schedule to follow, just whatever we feel like doing that day.

6. I could show up in sweatpants and nobody would care.

The kids come down in the pajamas and stay in them all day. I'm just trying to not make them feel self-conscious; I really do it for the kids... lol.

7. More of a flexible schedule.

I can go into work one week and then go to the beach the next and not get into that much trouble. However, who wants to leave the kids for too long anyways? I am already away from them all year at school!

8. I get fed food.

Love not having to think about my meals... .it's all just in the fridge or the cabinet. I can eat whatever the kids are eating; we eat a lot of mac and cheese!

9. Kids at times can seem to teach you more than any professor or elder could.

Yes, sometimes I have to be stern with the kids and they get mad, but no one gets over being mad at someone as quickly as a child does. They teach me a lot about love and forgiveness. They are just so innocent and just love life; how can you not learn something from them?

10. You get to experience being a mom before becoming a mom.

Being a nanny you have a lot of learning experiences, good and bad. Especially being a nanny to a family with five children, there is not much I have not seen yet. I will know how to handle almost any situation when I finally have kids of my own. (It could also be the best birth control anyone could ask for haha)

11. It is one of the most rewarding jobs.

I do not only watch the kids, I clean the house as well. There is nothing more satisfying walking into a messy house then leaving it all cleaned and knowing that you are helping the parents lives easier. It is also pretty rewarding you survive a day without anyone getting hurt!

12. All the love

Kids do not have a filter. Therefore, randomly throughout the day I hear, "Na-Na I love you, you're my best friend" *Cue the water works. One of the best feelings is randomly standing in the kitchen and having a three year old run up and hug and hang on your legs. The smiles and the laughs make your hardest days better!

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
