I can distinctly remember the first episode of "Gilmore Girls" I ever saw. I was home sick from school and was flipping around on the channels when I landed on ABC Family. I watched as a woman and her daughter sat across from an elderly couple and discussed a recent trip the couple had taken. The couple then handed the woman and her daughter some candy (marzipan, which I'd never tried at the time). The two unwrapped the treats, stuck them in their mouths, then immediately spit them out because apparently they were disgusting. That's when I had to run to the bathroom to go and vomit.
Amazingly enough even after that charming first interaction, I began watching "Gilmore Girls" regularly. I would race home from school, grab a snack, then get the television on by 4 p.m. and watch as Lorelei and Rory's stories unfolded. As I got older, snacks turned to coffee (because of course I had to share in their obsession) and I fell in love with Stars Hollow and all who resided in that sleepy little town.
Of course I could not be more thrilled with the four new episodes being released to Netflix on November 25th. But like most of you, I have quite a few questions and am curious to see how things will turn out for some of our favorite characters.
1. What are Lane's twins like?
When the show ended, the two were too young to really see much of their personalities. Are they musical like their parents? Did Lane turn into the type of mother Mrs. Kim was?
2. Do Lorelei and Emily get along?
Some time has passed, maybe things have settled down. But for our entertainment's sake, I kind of hope not.
3. What job will Kirk have?
He's done everything from installing security to selling t-shirts, buttons, and beauty supplies to working at Taylor's Old Fashioned Ice Cream Shoppe. What will he do next?
4. Who will Rory be dating?
Will it be Dean?
Or Jess?
Or Logan?
Or maybe it'll be a guy she hasn't dated before (Marty?) or maybe she won't be with anyone!
5. How will they explain Richard's death?
Sadly, actor Edward Herrmann passed away at the end of 2014. How are the directors going to play Richard's death? Will they pretend he's on some business trip for the episodes, or will Richard Gilmore also have passed away?
6. How are Lorelei and Luke?
They belong together. They better be happy, gosh darn it.
7. Will Hep Alien make a comeback?
Hopefully, Gil can get a babysitter for a night.
8. Is Paul Anka still alive?
All I'm saying is, he better be.
9. What is Paris doing?
By far one of the funniest characters on the show. Are she and Doyle still together? Did she ever become a doctor despite her fear of sick people?
10. Is Rory a successful journalist?
She wasn't Editor of the Yale Daily News for nothing.
11. Are Friday night dinners still required?
Richard and Emily did pay for Rory's schooling. They had an agreement.
12. Will Lorelei and Rory still be each other's best friends?
Why am I even asking this? Of course, they will be.
I know Nov. 25 will be here before we know it, but I just can't wait for this revival. As Lorelei so correctly puts it, "Gilmore Girls" is not just a TV show, "it's a lifestyle." So let's fill our coffee mugs and watch our favorite girls talk insanely fast while using lots of references we still don't understand.
