The holiday season is upon us and I will very soon be back in New Jersey - surrounded by my family and friends whom I haven't seen in a couple of months. Cue LOTS of questions. I understand I have been gone for a few months and you are all just dying to know what I have been doing but there a few questions I would just really like to avoid.
1. How are you?
Here what I'm thinking: I'm tired, hungry, and stressed and would really like to leave this conversation and get into my bed with my dog and Netflix.
What I will actually do: smile and say "Everything's great!" and then proceed to tell you about how busy I've been
2. How are your grades?
3. Have you been eating well?
Well. some days I eat 1 meal and other days I eat 8.
4. How about going to the gym?
I will simply refer you to the following article
5. What's your major again?
If I don't bring up my major, don't assume I just forgot. If I didn't bring it up there was definitely a reason. I don't know what my major is and it is a stressful subject.
6. And what do you plan on doing with that?
7. Are you going to work or intern this summer?
Let me please just get through New Years without having to worry about this.
8. Did you hear what __________ did?
Yes, I am very impressed that everyone we know is celebrating major accomplishments. I changed my pants today. Let's celebrate that.
9. Do you go to a lot of parties?
Yes. I like to have fun but we really do not need to get into that right now.
10. Are you dating anyone?
If this changes I will let you know. But please do not ask.
11. Are you getting enough sleep?
No. Definitely not.
12. Thoughts on the election?
I fully understand that everyone is talking about the election right now and that this is a very important time in history but if we could go maybe one dinner without talking about it I would really appreciate it.
If we could just avoid those minor details of my life that'd be great.
