12 Places Wingate Students Know Too Well

Wingate University is a small university tucked away in a tiny town called....Wingate. The town of Wingate has two gas stations, two stop lights, one Food Lion, and about 3,000 college students. Over the years, Wingate students have found all of the best places an hour in each direction.

1. Stegall's BBQ, Marshville

Praise the good Lord above that this place exists. If somehow you attend Wingate and have not had this Godly cornbread drop what you are doing and go now.

2. Great China, Wingate

During their years at Wingate, every student is bound to visit Great China at least 400 times. The crab wantons speak for them self, and so does the angry lady demanding your order!

3. Tokyo Bistro, Wingate

We don't always want to admit it....but it is great.

4. Sketch Mex, Monroe

A common meeting place for RSOs and 21st birthday's. Being so close to that free queso almost makes our sky-high tuition worth it.

5. Red Bowl, Monroe

Bento boxes are like a college student's dream. Four different foods in one meal and enough leftovers for a midnight snack or even breakfast the next day.

6. Cook Out, Monroe

We have no where else to go at 2am, so...

7. Chili's, Monroe

Because that Sunrise Margarita is a must on everyone's 21st birthday.

8. Knife and Fork, Monroe

It is probably the most random name for a breakfast joint, but IHop is too far and this tiny place is just like a good Southern grandma's kitchen!

9. Goodwill, Indian Trail

Because we can't afford Belk, and this place ends up with the best stuff you never knew you needed.

10. JoAnn Fabrics, Monroe

A sorority girl's dream and the supplier of many family stitches on our campus....including mine....

11. QuikTrip, Monroe

Dem QT slushies doe.

12. Amelie's

The hour-drive is worth it every time for this adorable and delicious French bakery. They supply Obama with those amazing salted caramel brownies, ya know? If you attend Wingate and have not gone here yet, give me a call. I will take you, you poor deprived soul.

When I was learning how to talk, I was taught both Portuguese and English at the same time. In elementary school, I started taking mandatory Spanish classes, which I did well in because of my knowledge of Portuguese. Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.

I am without a doubt one of those people who refuses to start decorating for Christmas or listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, Thanksgiving has become an underrated holiday over the years. You barely see any Thanksgiving decorations in stores; it's like they skip right from Halloween to Christmas.

Some universities only get two or three days off for Thanksgiving break. Or, if your university is like mine, you get the whole week off go go home. A whole week off is a long time. I'm not complaining, because I'd rather have a whole week off than three days, but there is a lot of down time. Here are some ideas as to what you can do to get the most out of your Thanksgiving break.

For college students everywhere, Thanksgiving is a time to relax and not really worry about homework (well, depending on what major you're in).
