The first episode of Netflix's "Fuller House" brought fans back to San Francisco in 1987 when the hit ABC series first aired. In the first episode, we see striking parallels to "Full House" as we learn that DJ is a widow who has to take care of her three boys with the help of sister, Stephanie and best friend, Kimmy Gibler. The recreation of this classic show is sure to be a hit among lifelong fans because it puts a modern spin on one of the most celebrated sitcoms in history. Here are 12 nostalgia filled moments in Fuller House's first episode that will transport you back 29 years.
1. The opening credits
Although Carly Rae Jepson remade the theme song "Everywhere You Look" to be slightly more modern, all the elements of the opening credits, from the views of San Francisco to the snapshots of the characters, are still intact.
2. Joey's Bullwinkle voice
We love the fact that Joey is still a goofy kid at heart, wearing Bugs Bunny pajamas and using his famous Bullwinkle voice, even at age 56.3. Kimmy Gibbler's feet
Gibler's stinky feet have once again returned to their rightful place on the Tanner's kitchen table. But everyone is just as grossed out by this as they were 29 years ago.
4. "How rude!"
In Fuller House, Stephanie returns to San Francisco with a British accent after spending some time in London. But when she says her noteworthy catchphrase "How rude!", we finally hear the original Stephanie Tanner voice, which we all know and love.
5. Uncle Jesse's obsession with Elvis
6. Mr. Woodchuck
Obviously Mr. Woodchuck still loves wood but it's amazing that he can still make us laugh after all this time.7. DJ & Steph's "fight"
After accidentally tearing down the curtains in their old bedroom, DJ and Stephanie fall back into old habits by blaming each other so as not to "get in trouble". Although this scene appears silly, it makes fans smile, thinking about all the trouble these two sisters used to cause. 8. "Have Mercy!"
Uncle Jesse's swoon-worthy catch phrase "have mercy!" will never get old. Even 29 years later, he's still the best looking character on the show.
9. Steve's obsession with food
DJ's high school flame Steve makes an appearance and his appetite hasn't changed one bit. It's also charming that he wants to rekindle what him and DJ once had. The comment "I should have just asked you to marry me at the prom" is super sweet.10. Uncle Jesse singing "Forever"
The romantic song "Forever" that Jesse wrote for Rebecca still gives fans goosebumps. When he sings it on Fuller House, it immediately takes us back to when he sang it at their wedding. And let's not forget his beautiful dedication to Becky during this first episode in which he says "Thank you for 29 amazing years. I will love you forever". Can you say marriage goals?
11. "Cut it out"
Joey's corny, but adorable catchphrase "cut it out" obviously gets thrown into the mix of old sayings.
12. The Flintstones theme song
This is probably the most sentimental moment in the entire episode. When DJ's baby, Tommy, starts crying, the whole family jumps to action and begins singing the Flintstone's theme song, just like they did when Michelle was a baby. This scene is extremely touching because they play the new scene side-by-side with the original. This shows fans that even though a lot has changed, some things still remain the same. But, what's missing? Michelle's catch phrase "you got it dude" is nowhere to be found because Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen declined the offer to come back for the show. In the first episode, when Stephanie asks where her little sister is, Danny Tanner explains that Michelle is "busy in New York running her fashion empire". But, shout-out to the cast for breaking the fourth wall and taking a solid 30 seconds to give the camera a disapproving look. No offense, Olsen twins, but I think you deserved that.
The new series "Fuller House" is bound to be a hit, not for it's superb acting or captivating plot-line, but rather for it's ability to let fans reminisce on one of their favorite shows. As a diehard fan, I can't wait to finish the new series and most likely, restart the original as well.
