In the movie "Wild" staring Reese Witherspoon she says, "There is a sunrise and sunset everyday and you can chose to be there. You can put yourself in the way of beauty." This is just one of many incredible movie quotes from some incredible movies. I am of the opinion that a movie can change someone's life, and that people's lives change when they watch them. I think that certain movies in particular should be watched by certain groups of people to actually make a difference. This is my list of 12 movies that all girls in college need to watch.
12. "The To Do List"
Audrey Plaza plays the high school valedictorian perfectionist whose about to go to college and has barely done anything with guys. So she decides to make a list of all the things she want to to before she goes to college.
11. "Mean Girls"
This movie is on this list for obvious reasons. It's written by Tina Fey and stars Lindsey Lohan and Rachel McAdams and has become one of the most quoted movies of all time and is essential when trying to fit into any clique and teaches us that people are always as great as they seem.
10. "The Spectacular Now"
This movie based on the book by Tim Tharp is about a guy named Sutter Keely who is the typical high school jerk who meets and falls for the sweet girl Aimee Finicky, so stereotypical bad boy with good girl, blah blah. But this story in the guys point of view is good for girls in their 20s because it helps them realize what guys are truly thinking and gives the stereotypical story a new perspective.
9. "Sixteen Candles"
If you have lived this long and haven't seen this movie, your parents clearly didn't do a good job raising you. The first film directed by John Hughes starring Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall is about a girl named Sam whose whole family in hype for her sister's wedding and forgets her 16 birthday. In chick flick high school fashion, she's in love with Jake Ryan who is the most popular guy in school, but of course he has the perfect girlfriend. Of course the geek played by Anthony Michael Hall who likes Sam eventually tries to get her with Jake. If you want to watch this movie, it's now on Netflix!
8. "Definitely Maybe"
Ryan Renolds in this movie is a dad who is going through a divorce who decides to tell his daughter the story of how he met her mother, but he changes the names of the girls he dated so she has to figure out who the mother is. It's a great love story but not in the way you would expect.
7. "Perks of Being a Wallflower"
Charlie is a kid who is entering his freshman year of high school after the only friend he had decided to kill himself that summer. He then becomes friends with a group of outcasts like himself where he learns the true meaning of friendship as well as things he didn't know about himself.
6. "Never Been Kissed"
Drew Barrymore plays Josie Geller, a reporter who is sent undercover to go back to high school where she had never fit in and wants to get a do over. The movie also stars John C. Reiley, Molly Shannon and super young James Franco.
5. "Easy A"
This movie is about Olive Pendergast, a normal high school student. When one day, a gay friend of hers who is being bullied offers to pay her to say she had slept with him so he could stop being bullied. Eventually she starts being asked out by a bunch of unpopular guys to do the same thing and after being slut-shamed by the religious group at her school, she then decides to start dressing in revealing clothing and puts a red A on all of her clothes inspired by the scarlet letter.
4. "What's Your Number"
After reading an article in Marie Claire, Ally Darling played by Anna Farris starts to count the number of the guys she has been with and then discovers she has been with 20 guys and the article says that girls who have been with 20 or more men can't find a husband. So with the help of her neighbor played by Chris Evans, she decides to track down all of her exes in hope of being able to find "the one who got away."
3. "Train Wreck"
Amy played by Amy Schumer is a party girl who works at a New York magazine who has no desire to change her ways. That's until she meets Aaron Connors who is a athletic doctor who she is writing an article about, discovers she can fall in love, and the movie is freaking hilarious.
2. "Wild"
Based on the book Reese Witherspoon plays Cheryl Strayed who after her mother's death turns to drugs and cheats on her husband. After her marriage ends, she then decides to hike the PCT. While on this trail she not only looks back on her past, but discovers herself and what she wants for the future.
1. "He's Just Not That Into You"
This movie gives a brand new look on dating and shows that there are rules to dating and how the little stories you hear that shouldn't work out end up working out are exceptions and don't actually end up happening. The reason I made this number one is because when it comes to dating, we rely on these stories of rare instances of people working out and think it can happen to us, but the fact is it's not, and that's important to learn in college.
