Because we learn from animals a lot more than we would expect.

12 Lessons I Learned From My Dog

Throughout the years, I have had my dog by my side until recently when my family and I had to say goodbye to her suddenly. It was really hard to say goodbye to my best friend that I had with me through all the rough times and happiest moments of my life. I learned a lot more from her than I thought I would have. Here are 12 lessons my dog taught me in the 12 years she was part of my life.

1. Someone who truly loves you will love you no matter what.

You can mess up so many times but someone who truly loves you will continue to be there for you no matter what you did.

2. Never take anything for granted.

Life takes us by surprise. Never take anything or anyone for granted because you never know when it will be gone.

3. Take time to sit and listen.

We all have times where we just want to rant and talk about everything we are feeling, but sometimes, we just need to sit back and listen, whether it's nature or another person.

4. Never forget to live in the moment.

We are sometimes so focused on trying to figure out what the big moments are in life that we miss them. If we are constantly stuck in the past or future, we will never see the good that is going on around us right now.

5. Seize the day.

Make the day great.

6. Always be loyal.

Because being loyal goes a long way.

7. Forgive.

You do not need to carry around that negativity with you from someone or something who hurt you. Forgive and move on. Let yourself have the peace you deserve.

8. Show the ones you love compassion.

Because sometimes, people need to be reminded that they are loved.

9. Always trust your instincts.

Your instincts are never wrong. Always listen to them.

10. Sleep. All the time.

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in everything going on in life that we forget to take care of ourselves and sleep.

11. You are never too old go out and play.

Go out and enjoy the beautiful weather or just be active.

12. Love often and unconditionally.

This really goes a long way. Sometimes, it may hurt, but it will always be worth it.

It is amazing how many lessons a dog can teach when neither of us speak the same language.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
