"Stand By Me" hit the box offices 30 years ago this week, and there are people today, way under the age of 30, that appreciate the greatness that it has to offer. Gordie Lachance, Chris Chambers, Vern Tessio, and Teddy Duchamp are just 12, going on 13, the summer they set out to see a dead body. Along the journey, they teach us so many great life lessons. Here are some of my favorites.
1. Being weird is okay.
Embrace the weirdness, man.
2. Pinky swears are forever.
And apparently, they mean more than swearing on your mother's good name.
3. Always DOUBLE check that the gun is NOT loaded.
4. Always try to be the voice of reason.
Don't worry, Teddy, you'll soon experience the ultimate train dodge.
5. Live it up.
The original YOLO
6. Run with what God gave ya.
7. Always keep your friends humble.
8. Everyone needs some guidance, but not everyone can provide it.
9. Respect our veterans, and the PTSD that can come with their past.
10. It's okay to exaggerate sometimes.
Alright, Gordie, measurements with the leech don't count.
11. Sometimes, revenge is the best option.
Yes, Lardass, sit back and enjoy.
12. Always break out in song and dance when given the opportunity.
Lollipop, lollipop, ooo lolli lolli lollipop, lollipop *pop* ba doom doom doom
Bonus: Always have fun, because you never know where life will take you.
"It happens sometimes. Friends come in and out of our lives, like busboys in a restaurant."
