For as long as I can remember, the left side of the brain, which primarily focuses on the sciences and mathematics, has never agreed with how I enjoy learning. Personally, I am more creative when it comes to my academics, which is why I learn best when it involves the arts, writing, and really anything that pertains to the right side of the brain. In honor of the oh-so-joyous finals week, I figured it would be appropriate to write about the most exhausting subject to learn about: mathematics!
1. After sitting through a lecture, you go back to your dorm to work on your homework and realize you don’t remember anything.
2.When your prof asks the class, “So does that make sense?” you just nod your head because at this point, you don’t even know what you don’t know.
3. Sometimes even doing simple math or multiplication hurts your brain.
4. You’d rather write a novella than have to take a math test.
5. While you’re in class you think about 150 different things that have nothing related to tree diagrams.
6. When someone who is relatively good at math claims that they are terrible at math, you do an eye straining eye roll because you know damn well nobody could be worse at math than you.
7. You still use your fingers to count, even on a statistics exam.
8. Doing mental math has caused actual tears.
9. When you are taking an exam and some of your classmates are using a calculator, and you’re still trying to figure out if Tommy ordered a pizza or a calzone.
9. When your prof says that you can use a notecard during the exam...you, of course, use your resources to the best of your advantage.
10. When fractions are involved, a part of you dies.
11. Even after being in a math class for an entire semester, you confidently know that you learned absolutely nothing. Well, maybe how to find the slope.
12.Every day you thank the good Lord you are one math class away from never taking math ever again.
