What do you think about when you hear of the City of Buffalo? Most people think of wings. While there is nothing wrong with that, Buffalo has much more to offer! As a non resident, but frequent visitor, I have become very fond of Buffalo. Here are a few cool things about one of my new favorite cities.

1. It's super close to Niagara Falls!

Niagara Falls. One of the most beautiful landmarks in this country. 84,760 cubic feet per second of water flow from this beautiful set of falls that are on the U.S. and Canadian border.

2. It's a sports town.

Buffalo is a great city for all who love the game. For quite a great variety, you will find the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, Buffalo Bisons and Buffalo Bandits.

3. The wings.

Oh honey, let me tell you. If you think you have had good hot wings, you will find yourself mistaken when you make a trip to Buffalo. Fun fact: In Buffalo they are known only as wings; the term "Buffalo wings" is never used.

4. Buffalo is pretty artsy.

Albright-Knox Art Gallery is one of the many galleries in Buffalo. Albright Knox has been known to showcase some of the true masterpieces. I would totally recommend going to visit.

5. If you love winter, it is definitely the place to be.

Buffalo beautifully showcases all four seasons, but the most powerful of all is definitely winter. Just think... hot chocolate, winter cuddles with your love... oh, and 8-foot snow storms! All Wheel- and Four Wheel-drive vehicles are strongly recommended.

6. It borders another country!

This may seem like no big deal, but a totally different culture is right in its backyard!

7. Three words: foot. long. hotdog.

Swing by Ted's to try out a 12-inch hotdog. Don't forget to wash it down with a unique Loganberry Drink. Not only are the hotdogs twice normal size, they're twice as good!

8. Paula's Donuts

Forget everything you know about donuts (at least, everything you thought you knew.) These donuts are fresh local and delicious. The best thing is, Paula's doesn't stop at donuts. They also have muffins, bagels, pastries and more!

9. The hat company "New Era" was founded here.

New Era is the hat worn by almost all professional athletes. Even their fans, as well.

10. The architecture is magnificent.

From City Hall to the Darwin Martin house, the city is filled with architectural wonders.

11. Sponge Candy.

This candy is a surprisingly crunchy, hard chocolate candy that is only found around the Great Lakes.

12. Canalside.

Canalside is the place to really feel a piece of Buffalo culture. It gets better; concerts are often held here!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
