They say the first step is admitting the problem, therefore, the second must be finding more shows to watch entire seasons of in one sitting. If the “Top Picks for [insert name here]” just isn’t cutting it anymore, If you are trying to kill some winter break blues, or simply just want a new show to feed your addiction here is a list of shows that you should consider.
1. Once Upon a Time
If you’re a Disney nut then ABC’s “Once Upon A Time” is a great choice for you. If not, there's something for everyone to enjoy. From action packed fight scenes to true love's kissing, this show spins a modern twist on classic fairy tales that will leave you waiting for more.
2. Supernatural
"Supernatural" is one of the CW’s longest running shows which started in 2005 and is still on airing today. It has amassed over 2.6 million viewers and a astoundingly huge online fanbase. This show is easily something anyone can get addicted too. It follows Sam and Dean Winchester and the pandemonium they get into over 11 seasons. They are demon hunters who originally start out on a quest to find their lost father and along the way befriend an angel, the King of Hell, and many in between. It is in no way cheesy like many sci-fi based shows can be. It’s hilarious and heart warming and an absolute must watch. The first 10 seasons are on Netflix, season 11 just wrapped up and they are signed to film season 12 soon.
3. Sense8
"Sense8" is a Netflix original that is absolutely stellar. It follows eight very different people from across the world who suddenly find themselves connected. They lend each other their skills in order to accomplish goals and defeat enemies. "Sense8" goes places many sci-fi shows never have. It deals with gender, race, sexuality, economic class and many obstacles that people face today. It takes the science fiction genre to an entirely new level and the plot is a breathtaking work of art. Season one is on Netflix now and season two is likely to premiere sometime in June.
4. Teen Wolf
Perhaps for a younger crowd but still something that can be enjoyed by a vast age range is MTV's "Teen Wolf." It is loosely based on the 1985 film with the same title. What makes this show special is the talent of the cast. It has a great plot that introduces a new cast of characters each season. The actors truly make this show something to rave about. Sadly it is not available on Netflix, but many episodes can be found on MTV's official website.
5. Catfish
"Catfish" is another amazing show brought to us by MTV. It all started with Nev Schulman's documentary "Catfish" which later turned into the show that he hosts with his director best friend Max Joseph. The show is based on the slang verb "catfish" which is to lure someone into a false relationship online. Nev and Max help many people discover who they truly fell in love with online and if they really are who they claim to be. It is extremely entertaining and leaves you on the edge of your seat wondering who is on the other side of the computer. Not available on Netflix, but many episodes can be found on MTV's website and episodes are still airing today.
6. New Girl
Zooey Deschanel makes this show absolutely mesmerizing. It follows her character Jess's quirky life and adventures with her three male roommates. It discusses relationships, heartbreak, friendship, work, money and regular day issues. It is pricelessly entertaining and just plain fun. It still airs on FOX and three seasons are available on Netflix.
7. Jessica Jones
"Jessica Jones" is a Marvel and Netflix original based on the Marvel Comics. It is an action packed adventure that is unlike many classic superhero shows in many ways. For starters, the hero and protagonist is female. Jessica has the power of super strength and the plot follows her on perils as she attempts to destroy a villain who enslaved her with mind control. It takes a new spin on a classic concept and is extremely successful in doing so. It keeps you on your toes, and you'll go from laughing to crying in an instant. Season one is a must-watch.
8. Bones
"Bones" is the type of show you can watch without knowing the entire plot, but is much better when you do. It is very easy to follow and the characters make it extra addicting. It has a great cast of diverse characters and takes place in the fictional Jeffersonian Museum of anthropology where a team of anthropologists, scientists, and FBI agents work together to crack murder mysteries. Each episode follows a similar framework and are so easy to watch you find yourself done with the ten seasons available on Netflix in no time.
9. House
Honestly, Hugh Laurie brings this show to life. He plays a brilliant doctor Greg House who is arrogant and bitter and his raw unfiltered sarcasm and bluntness makes him shockingly like-able. Each episode follows a similar pattern with a patient with a life or death mystery ailment that House and his team of young doctors must help solve. It is very well written and a great watch, especially if you like medical based shows. All eight seasons are available on Netflix.
10. Law and Order: SVU
This show honestly makes you want to be an SVU detective. It follows fictional Special Victims Unit detectives in New York City doing their jobs and bringing criminals to justice. It has been airing since 1999 and four seasons are available on Netflix. It starts with a solid cast that slowly weeds out through the years, but Olivia Benson, played by Mariska Hargitay, works her way up in the department through the seasons and is still the star today. It is a show that you can pick up and watch from whichever season you please and it will still make sense. It is very easy to follow and entertaining for many ages.
11. Chopped
Wether you're a fan of cooking shows or not, this is a great show for you. It is something that anyone can enjoy because it is based on something we all love, food. "Chopped" follows a set of four chefs during each episode who are given crazy baskets of ingredients they must include in a single dish. Each round a panel of critically acclaimed chefs judge the contestants on their ability to creatively and deliciously incorporate all of the ingredients in their baskets. There are three courses including the appetizer, entree, and desert and the judges eliminate one contestant per round. The winner is given the title of "Chopped Champion" and wins $10,000. A "collection" of episodes are available on Netflix and is still aired on Food Network today.
12. Cutthroat Kitchen
"Cutthroat Kitchen" is another addicting Food Network program that puts a spin on the classic cooking show. It is hosted by Alton Brown and is hilariously entertaining. It starts with four chef contestants who are given $25,000 cash. They can use that money per round to sabotage their fellow contestants in the funniest ways possible, like making them use only the bottoms of pans to cook their entire meals, or taking away all of their utensils. Each episode features gut-busting new sabotages for the contestants to buy. The contestants must all cook the same meal and a guest judge picks their favorite. The catch is the contestants cannot tell the judge what horrors the went through making that meal and the winner only get to keep the remaining money of their $25,000. Two seasons are available on Netflix and new episodes air on Food Network frequently.
