If there is a single Netflix character that I embody when I need any ounce of bravery, confidence, or intimidation, it would be Francis (Frank) Underwood from House of Cards. Having just binge-watched season four in about two days, I feel truly inspired by the fictional politician we love to hate and hate to love. Allow me to showcase some of Frank's finer words of wisdom, and utilize their message the next time you need to buck up and get down to business.

1. Stand by your words.

When giving your word, ensure you can actually give your word, no matter how the situation may play out.

2. Have some confidence.

3. Stopping and smelling the roses is not efficient.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that enjoying life is not something you should take the time to do every once in a while, but be cautious in of your time management.

4. Be reluctant to wear your heart on your sleeve.

5. After all, when it comes to professional success, emotions are best left out of the equation.

6. Don't be afraid to be selfish.

Being focused on yourself, especially in college, is rarely a bad thing. In fact, some of the most successful graduates I know were not worried about what anyone else thought upon making their decisions that led to their successful career paths.

7. Along the lines of being self-interested, independence is never a bad thing.

Never let others drag you down on the path to achieving your goals. If you let outside influences get in the way, you might never reach them. Hence, finding independence and being okay with being alone can allow you to truly flourish.

8. You may lose a few on your way to the top.

Don't be surprised when people who you thought would be there for you in the long run seem to disappear along the way; the pain is temporary, but regret is a wound that takes much longer to heal.

9. Sleep is most certainly for the weak.

But also very necessary for carpe diem; find your balance.

10. Remember you deserve nothing, but you can earn anything you set your mind to.

Nothing is guaranteed in this life, work your way to the top. Then and only then will you truly deserve all the success that comes to you.

11. Walk away from the toxic people in your life.

You don't need them anyway.

12. If this is too much for you to handle. . .

Perhaps reevaluate how strong you want to be and where you see yourself in the years to come. I'm not saying be a cold heart-ed shrewd, but certainly embody a little Frank Underwood when things get rough. It will give you that extra feeling of abrasive confidence to conquer anything that comes your way.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
