Every person has a favorite film, but I would like to share with you the films that resonated with me for years; enough to make me want to become a filmmaker myself:
1. Amelie
This is like an old fashioned, french, wes anderson film. Has cinematography and character choices that would scare any filmmaker when wanting to make a film.
2. Moonrise Kingdom
This IS a Wes Anderson film, and boy is it a good one. Each film by him has a sense of awkwardness that just makes me more intrigued. He is a filmmaker that I, and other filmmakers look upto for his creativity, intelligence, and fearlessness.
3. Pulp Fiction
This is a classic that all filmmakers have to watch over and over again from when they are young, until now before they can truly understand all of the aspects that make it so great.
4. Star Wars Series
A series that no one thought was possible in it’s time and that no other crew could have made so awesome. People still try to create something as amazing as this was, but it's just impossible considering how iconic and creative the entire series was.
5. Drive
This is an independent action film that makes people feel uncomfortable, but comfortable enough to laugh at the violence and fall in love with the characters despite their terrible flaws. Sounds brutal, I know, but watch it and you’ll understand.
6. A Little Princess
This is a predictable film, but one of the first I ever felt something for. The relationship the characters have to each other was really inspirational in general, as it did touch on a lot of problems people probably faced during the time or War.
7. Interstellar
I believe this film brought back space films and is to be one of the best space films in this decade. The film really made people think and that’s something a lot of people appreciate since it is not as common anymore.
8. Toy Story
I never really thought of it as an inspiration until I realized how much-animated Disney films is what makes kids believe in things kids should believe in. Like magic, art, and creativity. These stories felt so real and resonate with me throughout my whole life.
9. It Happened One Night
This is an old comedic film that somehow managed to pull of some modern comedy. Usually older films are hard to relate to in this day and age, but this one is a classic that I love.
10. Sixth Sense
Probably one of the first horror/thriller movie I ever saw was this one. As a child, the plot twist in it was surprising. I was scared for days.
11. Dumb and Dumber
One of the funniest movies of all time was this one when I was a kid. Slapstick and 'dumb' humor is always a need.
12. Breakfast at Tiffany's
This inspired me more because of Audrey Hepburn's incredible talent and beauty and made me wish I could become just like her one day.
One of the reasons I have loved film was how they pretty much make something out of nothing. First it's an idea, and then it is an idea on paper, and eventually it is an idea in motion. It really is an incredible form of art that I can't wait to partake in one day. Maybe I can have a film that inspires other people, who knows.
