Every sorority has one event in common with every other and it's chapter meetings on Sundays. At some schools, they have those meetings on Monday nights, but the bottom line that is we all eventually get tired of attending chapter. Alas, there are probably some girls for whom chapter is the highlight of their whole week and they will miss it dearly every Sunday after they become Alumni. Now, don't get me wrong, I used to love chapter. It used to be exciting getting dressed up, having cute fraternity gentlemen come in with homemade baked goods (that their girlfriends probably made), and getting to be with sisters. In fact, I will never forget my very first Sorority Sunday and how I turned around exclaiming how fun this is and two older members responded, "That will change." I brushed them off because, at the time, I thought that they were so wrong. Now, as I sit writing this article on a Sunday, I am realizing how very right they were and thinking of what excuse I can use today to convince myself not to go to chapter tonight.
1. Too Much Homework
I mean, school does come first. Yes, I could have done all of my homework during the week, but here we are and it has to get done.
2. The Weather
Whether it is raining, snowing, windy, or even too sunny, I should really stay home to avoid any accidents.
3. Chapter Email
The chapter email will tell me everything that I need to know, so why should I sit through two hours of questions that I probably know the answers to?
4. Unnecessary Treats
Chapter meetings always involve lots of cookies, cupcakes, and treats that my hips do not need.
5. I'm Sick
Well, it's just a minor headache, but why should I risk it going to chapter when I need to stay healthy for school and everything else that I have this week?
6. Pin Attire
Why should I get dressed up and do my hair and makeup for a two-hour meeting when I could stay home in my sweats with hair tied chilling with no makeup on (you can bet all your chapter dues that I just used a Drake reference).
7. Points
I already have enough points to go to formal. It's only 10 points out of a possible 70, but Seniors always have a lower requirements because we are almost adults with adults things to do.
8. Standing And Clapping
Now, as much as I love guests and fraternity boys coming in to wish us luck on our philanthropy, I loathe having to constantly sit and stand and clap for every guest every time that they enter and leave.
9. No Cellphones
Sometimes, chapters like to do this lovely thing where they take the girls phones away to ensure that they are listening and paying attention. How am I supposed to Snapchat my friends who are sitting in a different row than me if we do not have our phones?
10. Sabbath
Sunday is the supposed to be the Lord's day and the day of rest, so who am I to be above that?
11. A Bear Ate Me
Obviously, a bear did not really eat me, but watching that on Animal Planet a couple of weeks ago is still affecting me emotionally and I need to stay home.
