12 Differences Between Pokemon Go And The Classic Pokemon DS Games

Being a Pokemon fan my whole life, the classic handheld Pokemon games have better features than Pokemon Go.

I own so many Pokemon games that I cannot even remember all of them. So of course, I downloaded Pokemon Go on my phone. While I think it is great that I can now catch Pokemon on the quad, in my backyard, and outside Target, I like the classic games on the DS and now 3DS, such as Pokemon Heart Gold, Black/White, X/Y, and Alpha Sapphire/Omega Ruby. There are so many more features that you can use on the classic games that, frankly, Pokemon Go does not and cannot have as of right now. When Pokemon Sun and Moon come out in November, you can bet I will be first in line to buy it. Pokemon Go might be famous right now, but I prefer to be playing Pokemon Omega Ruby in my dorm room. Gotta catch 'em all!

1. Catching Pokemon

In Pokemon Go, catching a Pokemon is all about aim. In the classic Pokemon games, the trainer has to first weaken the Pokemon's health, then the Pokeball magically lands perfectly on the Pokemon. Just remember to hit that A button to make sure it is caught.

2. No Tall Grass Sections

In Pokemon Go, every spot is essentially tall grass, since you can catch a Pokemon anywhere. In the classic games, only certain areas of the path were available to catch Pokemon.

3. Evolution

Candies are the name of the game for evolution in Pokemon Go. It no longer matters what level your Pokemon reaches before it evolves. And what about Pokemon that only evolve with stones, such as Evee?

4. No Other Trainers To Battle On The Path

On the way to other towns on the map, a trainer would run into several other opponents. Once eye contact is made, be prepared to battle. Pokemon Go offers no equivalent to this because the only way you battle another trainer is at a gym.

5. No Trading

With each new Pokemon game released, trading becomes easier. Currently, there is no way to trade Pokemon with other trainers in Pokemon Go.

6. No Next Door Neighbor

Throughout each adventure, the trainer is joined by neighborhood kids. Although they do not travel with you, there are certain spots where your neighbors are implemented into the action.

7. Your Mom Does Not Ask To Keep Your Money

Right before you leave in any classic Pokemon game, your mother will ask you if you want her to keep your money. Almost every trainer keeps control of their own money.

8. Planting Berry Trees

If you have no money to buy more oran berries, an easy way to obtain some is by planting them. If I am bored of battling with other trainers, I usually take time to plant several berries.

9. Battling Pokemon Gyms

In almost every town, there is one Pokemon gym that you have to beat and they always have a theme (bug, psychic, water, etc.). In Pokemon Go, the gyms are basically landmarks, have no theme, and are a lot more difficult than the classic gyms.

10. Teaching HMs To Your Pokemon

Cut, surf, fly. These are all important HMs to have your Pokemon learn because they are crucial in accessing all areas on the map. Pokemon Go is wide open, but I obviously cannot just fly to another town.

11. No Pokemon Centers

A crucial part of any classic Pokemon game, the red tiled Pokemon centers are a frequent stop. Healing your Pokemon here is a lot faster and cheaper than having to keep using potions. There are currently no Pokemon Centers in Pokemon Go.

12. No Rival Team Trying To Steal Pokemon

Team Flare, Plasma, Aqua, Magma, and the list goes on. In basically every classic Pokemon game, there is always a rival team trying to use Pokemon for evil reasons and you must stop them. In Pokemon Go, there are three teams: Instinct, Valor, and Mystic. While these three teams battle over gyms, they are not stealing Pokemon.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
