2016 was a huge year for beauty. The makeup trends ranged from matte lipstick to winged eyeliner to contour, but with the new year, expect to leave these trends in 2016. Only a month into 2017, and we're already seeing gorgeous new beauty trends being sported by runway models and red-carpet celebrities alike. Here are 12 beauty trends to be on the look out for in 2017!
1. "No Makeup" Look
Baking, contouring, and massive amounts of highlight were all the rage in 2016. But in 2017, the focus is on dewy skin and minimal makeup. The "No Makeup" look proves that some tinted moisturizer, mascara, and lip gloss can go a long way.
2. Faux Freckles
Sported most famously by the first male CoverGirl, James Charles, faux freckles are considered to be a natural beauty staple. Giving the skin a natural, sun-kissed look, faux freckles can be applied with an brown eyeliner or brown eyebrow pencil.
3. 80's-Inspired Makeup Looks
Let's be real, the 80's was a pretty dark period for hair, makeup and fashion. But a lot of makeup artists are embracing the brightly colored eyeshadow and neon lipstick. Pretty pinks, blues, and purple eyeshadows are a fun way to add some color to a makeup look.
4. Statement Eyeliner
Normal cat eyes are so 2016. Play up your eyes with fun, statement-making eyeliner! Bright, matte colors and glitter eyeliner are both fun ways to make your eyes pop.
5. Glitter Lipstick
These lips are definitely a bold choice. Gone are the matte liquid lipsticks of 2016, because these lips are such a fun look for a night out. You can achieve this look by either patting some cosmetic glitter onto glossed lips, or purchasing a glitter lipstick here.
6. Lip Gloss
Once again, 2017 has proved that matte lips are a thing of the past. Glossy lips have been making a comeback, and lip gloss has undergone a makeover (pun intended) with a less-sticky formula. Double points if the lip gloss is also hologram.
7. Minimal, smudged eyeliner
Let's be honest, a classic cat eye will never go out of style. But lining the inner waterline or alternatively, smudging your eyeliner to create a smoky effect is the perfect look for any normal day or a night out.
8. Silicone Beauty Blenders
Beauty blenders were all the rage in 2016, but due to the spongy material, users complained about how a majority of the makeup products used were absorbed into the sponge. However, Molly Cosmetics just recently released a beauty blender that was made of silicone rather than sponge, and many beauty bloggers have become fans. You can buy it here.
9. Brushed Up Brows
2016 truly was the year of the eyebrows, and while full brows are still very much in style, many models, celebrities and beauty gurus have been raving about natural brows, that are brushed up and lightly colored with light brow pomade, rather than bold, drawn-on eyebrows.
10. Vampy Lips
Nothing will ever make a statement quite like a dark lipstick. Dark plum, red and berry lipsticks paired with downplayed eyes is a look that will thankfully be carried into 2017.
11. Glossy Lids
2017 truly is the year of the gloss. Celebrities, runway models and beauty bloggers have been going wild over this new makeup look. Brands like M.A.C. have a specific eye gloss, or just swiping some lip gloss over your lids will give you the same, shimmery effect.
12. Glitter Tears
Youtubers like Nadine Eisenring have been creating beautiful artwork on their eyes with just a little bit of cosmetic glitter. Definitely a bold eye look, but with a downplayed lip, this look is perfect for a fun night out or a special occasion.
