I am an enthusiast of Rock’n’Roll, and more importantly, the Beatles. For as long as I can remember, my life has been dedicated to having headphones in my ears and a Beatles song playing in the background. Not a day goes by where I don’t listen to a song by arguably the greatest band of all time and much of my spare time is spent listening to and learning about this band and all their marvels. The band, with bright and happy songs that can turn any frown upside down, is great for listening to for any time or occasion. Here is a list of Beatles songs that aren’t necessarily my all time favorites, but will always manage to brighten a bad day.
1. "In My Life" - Rubber Soul
I know I said this list wasn’t necessarily my favorite Beatles songs, but it’s either this song or "Something" that ranks number one as my favorite Beatles song of all time and instantly makes me feel refreshed from the opening riff. It’s a beautiful melody that’s not too deep but really connects with everyone.
2. "Here Comes the Sun" - Abbey Road
I don’t think I know a single person who dislikes this song. This is another one of those songs with a riff that immediately cheers you up and brings sunshine into your life. George Harrison, while he wasn’t the primary songwriter for the Beatles, always managed to write the most beautiful songs that held so much meaning to people.
3. "All You Need is Love" - Magical Mystery Tour
A mantra that should be sung over and over again until you’re cheered up. There might be a lot of badness and negativity in the world that’s bringing you down, but like John Lennon sang, “There’s nowhere you can be that isn’t where you’re meant to be—all you need is love.” Just remember that in the hard times, and your spirits can be lifted.
4. "I’ve Got A Feeling" - Let it Be
This song makes me want to let my hair down and have a good time. It makes you forget your worries and just enjoy the moment. A true Lennon/McCartney classic, and one Beatles song that I never skip when it comes on. Tensions were rising with the Beatles when this song was recorded, but you’d never know it listening to this song.
5. "She Loves You" - Single
One of the band’s first number one singles and one that will make you want to get on your feet and remember the days when you watched the four British mop-tops come on stage at the Ed Sullivan show for the first time. Too bad I wasn’t actually born yet during that famous airing, but this song helps me imagine how exciting that day was.
6. "Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band/With A Little Help From My Friends" - Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
I felt as if I had to combine these two together because they blend together so perfectly as the first two tracks on the album. Paul’s concept for Sgt. Pepper’s was so new and uncharted that listening to these two songs for the first time is such a new sensation that you can’t help but be happy. Ringo’s singing in the latter of the two songs also makes you think “Huh, I really do get by with a little help from my friends”.
7. "I Saw Her Standing There" - Please Please Me
An early song, and always one of my favorites, especially when I’m in a good mood. This was such an early attempt at Rock’n’Roll by the Beatles and it was an excellent attempt. I couldn’t help but think when I was 17 years old that this song was about me and then I became one of those crying fangirls you always see in the old concert footage.
8. "Hard Day’s Night" - Hard Day’s Night
This whole album will literally make you feel as if you are in the happy days 1964, at the height of Beatlemania. Just listening to this album you can hear the screaming girls running after the lads and this opening tune can’t help but get you excited about the Beatles. This was before the days of Woodstock, things were still innocent and jolly, this song will bring you back to those youthful days.
9. "Yellow Submarine" - Revolver
Not everyone loves "Yellow Submarine," and some people even find it immature, but what a happy carefree song that was so unusual and quirky for a Rock’n’Roll album! I guarantee if you start a "Yellow Submarine" sing-along sometime soon, you’ll get a lot of smiles and make a lot of people happy.
10. "Dear Prudence" - The White Album
“The sun is up, the sky is blue, it’s beautiful and so are you.” Not a very well known Beatles songs but one of my favorites that actually overwhelms me with happiness whenever I hear it. This is such a beautifully written and optimistic song and one of the most underrated, in my opinion.
11. "Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da" - The White Album
Life goes on, brah. This song is the epitome of happy-go-lucky songs written by Paul McCartney, and a song I really love to sing to myself when things aren't going exactly as planned.
