1. St.Elmo's Fire
"St. Elmo's Fire" is a classic 80's movie, being released in 1985. The movie is about where a lot of us are slowly finding ourselves; slowly graduating from college and going our separate ways from our college friends. Even when we do separate from them, they are still a big part of who we are. This movie stars Demi Moore and Rob Lowe among other actors.
2. Working Girl
This movie is every girl right after college; we are still somewhere between being a girl and a woman, and most of us are landing our first "big girl job". This movie stars Melanie Griffith, or as most of us know her as Dakota Johnson's mom, as well as Harrison Ford, and Sigourney Weaver.
3. Steel Magnolias
"I'm not crazy M'Lynn, i've just been in a bad mood for forty years."We all learn pretty quickly that what we learn from our Tribe of women is a very large part of who we become. Steel Magnolias celebrates these tribes and also a love for the Deep South. This movie stars Julia Roberts and Sally Field. Chances are, someone in your life has quoted this movie more then once!
4. The Big Chill
In college, girls usually develop lifelong friendships; the kind where you can call each other no matter what time of day and you do your best to help them too. The Big Chill is about friendships where you can pick up right where you left off, no matter how much time has passed. The soundtrack is pretty awesome, too!
5. Mystic Pizza
Let's be real, the dating world in college is messy; no way around it. Mystic Pizza is a cute feel good movie about a pizza place in Mystic, Connecticut and all of the fun romances and friendships that go along with it. Check it out!
6. When Harry Met Sally...
This is a movie that my parents and their friends, all who were college kids in the 80's quote all of the time. We all have guy friends, but When Harry Met Sally ponders the question of if guys and girls can actually be friends. Super cute and fun movie to watch on a lazy night with your buds!
7. She's Having A Baby
The topic of having kids isn't something we're probably thinking about at the moment; we might want them in the future, but at the moment we're focused on relationships and who those relationships are with. Sometimes we get so caught up in focusing on where we're going that we forget the now, and are thinking way past our college years. She's Having A Baby is about remembering that life and all it's messiness is precious!
8. Moonstruck
Who doesn't love Cher?! Guess what? She made a really great rom com back in the 80's that is awesome. This movie is about falling in love; another perfect movie to curl up and watch with your gal pals.
9. Say Anything
Now this movie is iconic; who hasn't seen a reference to the guy with giant boombox over his head? This movie is about first love and shows it in one of the cutest ways possible!
10. Terms Of Endearment
This is another great movie about the power of mother and daughter relationships; even though moms and daughters fight like cats and dogs, when things come down to it, our moms become everything, especially in college. This movie is great to remind you just how special your mom is, maybe it's watching it with her on a weekend home, or watching it with your friends.
11. Top Gun
Who doesn't love young Tom Cruise in Aviators and a flight suit?! Most of us have seen this movie or at least parts of it since a lot of schools use Top Gun for party themes, Bid Day Themes and Homecoming Floats. You should check this one out! Even if it's just to look at Tom Cruise!
12. Peggy Sue Got Married
College can get stressful and overwhelming; sometimes in college you do things you regret, whether it be staying out too late the night before a big test, drinking a little too much, or waiting until the last minute to do your homework. This movie is about looking back fondly at your life for the things you thought you messed up on. Sometimes these things make you who you are and they end up becoming some of your biggest memories!
What's awesome about 80's movies is that it doesn't take a huge wallet to be able to watch them. Most of these movies can be watched on Netflix or Amazon, and don't cost much to buy on DVD. Sometimes the oldest movies are the ones you need to watch the most!
