11 Things I Learned About Fantasy Football

About two weeks ago my friends texted me asking, “Hey, want to join our fantasy football league?” It was free, it was with my friends, and it was about hundreds of hot football players, what could be better?? Of course I said yes! So, I didn’t think much of until a couple days before our first “draft.” I knew I was in trouble right then and there because 1) I didn’t know what a “draft” was and 2) I was so confused why they kept saying it was our first. Little did I know it was a much longer process that just 5 minutes. I was and still completely lost, but now I can say I officially survived my first draft of the season with only minor smack talk and bruises to my ego. Here’s a couple things that I learned on the way, everyone probably knows them, but I was amazed. Turns out football is like another language and I am not bilingual.

1. There are different ways you can play fantasy football. My friends used the app, but now I know you can use charts, white boards, it's, like, really legit.

2. You can win money. People actually put money down for their leagues. That's insane!!! Shout out to my friends for not taking advantage of me and letting this just be for fun because I would be broke.

3. You have a certain time that your group drafts. My team drafted at like 10 o'clock at night. What the heck.

4. You have a time limit to draft you players. You have 2 minutes each time and have to go in rounds. You only get to pick one player at a time. It lasted like an hour! So, not fair.

5. It's good to have a background on the football players before you start. Or else you will be freaking out to you best friend and your mom and then you'll have to call your mom's co-worker for help at 10 pm at night. Oh wait that's just me? Well. Shout of to K Phillips for all the help.

6. It's also good to know what "positions" are in football. Who know you needed a quarter back and what's a tight end? Apparently you need like one of everything to make a team?

7. You should not just pick people because they have to same last names as your best friends. You should also not pick players just because they're cute, they're mascot is cute, or because you like their team's colors. Oh well. I did it anyway.

8. You find out who your true friends are when you play fantasy football. Shout out to those who actually tried to help me and who DIDN'T smack talk me in the chat room. *Cough cough Mike*

9. You pick your teams for the week and then do nothing. Which is awesome. I like doing nothing, this is my favorite part about fantasy football.

10. Men are impatient. I played in a group with almost all men. SORRY IT TOOK ME A MINUTE TO DEBATE WHO I WANTED TO PICK. GIVE ME A BREAK IT WAS MY FIRST TIME. DON'T SMACK TALK ME.

11. IT LASTS FOR 15 WEEKS??? I thought this was a one time deal... boy was I wrong.

Wish me luck for the next draft and keep in mind these important lessons. If anyone has any information about football or has any cute football players for me, your help would be greatly appreciated! Pray that the Seahawks play a good defense and don't just have a cute mascot!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
