For a small state, Connecticut has a very particular language that is accustomed to our state only. Here are a few words only true Connecticut residents will understand:

1. The Sound

The closest thing the majority of the state has to an ocean, but swim at your own risk.

2. The Merritt

Where the speed literally goes 0 to 100 real quick.

3. Apizza

Arguably the best pizza in the world, thanks to New Haven.

4. The Hartford Whalers

A hockey team that needs to come back to Connecticut.

5. Stew Leanords

The only grocery store that has dancing cows, singings chickens, and an on site petting farm.

6. Lake Compounce

Your favorite childhood memory, and you were always too scared to go to Quassy instead.

7. Nutmeg

I couldn’t tell you why our state is known for nutmeg, but we proudly rep our nutmegger pride.

8. The Packy

What one would normally call the Package Store, we have nicknamed The Packy.

9. The Huskies

It’s not just a dog breed in Connecticut.

10. Xfinity Theatre or The Meadows

Where you go to tailgate and listen to country music in hopes to remember it the next day.

Thursday nights getting drunk with your friends during the summer sums this up.
